Hi guys. A buddy I work with just inherited a small hand full of firearms. there's one I know very little about.

It's a Western Field, 16 gauge, side by side. It looks quite old in the blurry cell phone pic I saw of it, but that's the only description I have of it. Once he takes possession of them, I'll try to get a better description and some pics to add to the thread.

My understanding of the company is that they partnered with a number of other builders? Anyway, any background info, history, value, opinions or whatever would be appreciated.

Thanks!

There were a few models made for Wards Westernfield. The most common was Stevens and if it is indeed a Stevens, it is most likely the 311 or 5100 which was the same thing. However, Ithaca also made shotguns for Wards that are branded Westernfield. I have a 12 gauge that is the same as the Lefever Nitro Special. Also, the Ithaca Western Arms Long Branch also made guns for Westernfield. Value depends on condition. The 311 type gun will be worth the least. Value could be worth anywhere from $100.00 to maybe a high of $500.00 but I think you would wait a long time getting it. It would have to be in excellent original condition. Average value will be $275.00-$350.00. We need to see pics and serial number will tell year if it has a serial number. Does the action still lock up tight, are there any dents, any cracks, are the bores pitted? This all effects value. The gun could also have short chambers.

Thanks for the info thus far. Neither of the blurry photos he took show the serial number, but when he gets the guns in hand, I'll post them.
