Tell me about my RC 1938 k98

I really missed my k98 so i broke down and bought a new one.

Any info you can tell me about it would be great, would love to know the history of the rifle:
Its a RC 243 1938, it appears to be missing site hood and one screw, The stocks abit beat up but i really like it that way, the bore and nice and shiny with strong rifling, butt plate is marked brg

I can tell you a little about this K98. The receiver code 1938 243 means the rifle was manufactured in 1938 at the Mauser Werke AG, Borsigwalde , East of Berlin. Total production of code 243 rifles from the Borsigwalde facility was 79,280 in 1938. Because it is a RC rifle, it will be a mixmaster of K98 parts to a varying degree. All K98 parts have stamps that can identify them. Reproduction capture screws & sight hood, & sling can be obtained to complete your rifle. Enjoy it because the supply will dry up soon.

Thanks for the info, exactly what i was looking for, and i actually have a ww2 sling handy so ill throw that on the old girl tonight
 
The stock looks to be a cupped buttplate version so you should need a 12.5" cleaning rod.

Nice looking RC! Good code as well.

Post up a list of the waffenamts and we should be able to tell you where most of the parts were made if you're interested.
 
VERY nice old girl. She has "been there, done that", captured, rebuilt, sold and now you have her.

Look after her. Remember, the UN hates her, so that's a good reason to love her, right there!




How did you hang by your toes from the wall to get that picture? I can't do that! lol!
 
Can anyone tell me what the marking is that right along side of the 29 on the 3rd pic? never seen that before and also if i am not to busy tomorrow ill try to get more pics of waffenamts tomorrow

That is the pre-nazi weimar eagle firing proof. it was phased out after 1938 in favor of the familiar nazi eagle clutching the swastika.
 
Blista77, if you are serious about collecting K98's, a good book to look for is "Backbone of the Wehrmacht The German K98k Rifle, 1934 - 1945" by Richard D Law. It is a great source of photos & information about the K98k Mauser rifle.
 
Backbone is extremely outdated. Lots of errors and fake rifles. Use it only as a very basic reference.

The new books Kreigsmodell and K98K 34-39 are 10x better.
