I heard it can be removed in a few minutes anyway, but what are the implications. I understand the gun won't fire without the magazine, even with a round in the chamber.

This doesn't bother me, but what does that mean for IPSC reloads when dropping a half loaded mag, with a round in the chamber? Can you slam in a new mag and continue firing.

Also, I heard it prevents the mag from dropping freely (the M&P's without this shed their mags quickly).

Is this really the case?

It can be removed but not sure of the difficulty or proccedure.

Yes

Mine drops freely, no hang ups or problems.

Hi,

Unless you'd ever want to try shooting the round in the chamber off without a magazine in the gun, the mag safety wouldn't affect you during your stage. Having a gun with a mag safety will slightly change the procedure for demonstrating your gun is empty, at the end of a stage (you need to pull the trigger on an empty chamber just before you holster your gun, so you'd need to have an empty mag to use for that, and point out to the RO what you're doing - it's slightly unusual, but yours isn't the only gun like that, so it's no big deal).

One thing to point out: if your gun comes with the mag safety as standard and isn't offered as an option from the factory without it, removing it will make the gun "illegal" for competiting in the Production division of IPSC, where that gun is best suited for... So, if that's the case, just leave the safety as is, so you can shoot with us, and not have to go to Std or Open and compete against multi thousands dollar custom race guns - hardly a level playing field... ;)

the M&P comes with allot of different configs.

one of them is without mag safety.

Not likely to shoot it that way.

Will have to inform the RO before the match starts....no sweat. I'd rather not have either of those safeties, but the gun I ordered has both. I can live with it.
