i may be interested in purchasing one of these neat little carbines can anyone tell me how acurate/safe and functional; are these rifles aswell if anyone has any info on the use of these rifles in ww2 as the Austrian Army beacame the German Army did these rifles get use in the wermacht they look like they would have made a good carbine for mech or airborne troops

They are reasonably safe to shoot, the bolt wont come flying out at you if thats your concern. However Mannlicher fell down a little on the design by not incorporating a good gas venting system, so never shoot one without glasses.
The German army didn't use these guns, they were used by the Ordnungspolizei, but not frontline troops. Nor were they used by the SS as sometimes one will see claimed.
They are my sentimental favourite rifle, but have some serious handicaps, they work well but are not as good as say a Mosin Nagant.

They kick like a mule in 8 x 56mm, but they're neat guns and very affordable.

If you get one that's H marked, they WERE used in large numbers by the Hungarian army on the Eastern front in WW2.

I bought the reloading dies, molds and components for 8x56R and shoot cast bullets out of my M95 carbine and rifle. I like the longer sighting radius on the rifle better, but they're both good guns. The mag spring is a bit weak on the rifle and needs to be replaced, but it's otherwise trouble free.

I think that the rifles were rechambered from 8x50R to 8x56R between the wars, and at any rate many of them have nice bores and are in decent shape or arsenal refinished.

You'll need to get a supply of the clips with which the rounds are fed into the magazines, plus the reloading components. As long as you don't mind that and perhaps enjoy that aspect of shooting them, they're a neat gun to own. The carbine would undoubtedly kick like a mule, though I've only fired the cast bullets out of mine so far.

Cheers,

Frank

PS. I'm pretty sure that the M95 Carbines were the rifles used by two of my great uncles in the Royal Hungarian Gendarmie during WW2 on the eastern front.
