I'm thinking about thinning out the herd, selling off the rifles I don't want or shoot anymore and buying something new and interesting.

The Finnish m39 has caught my eye and from what I've read they are good rifles. I've owned a mosin in the past and found that the trigger was extremely heavy, the front globe style sight sight was poor for target work, the straight stock was uncomfortable in prone position, and the bolt was very stiff and difficult to operate. I was also concerned that the thin and very long hanguard and forestock would warp very easily and contact the barrel effecting accuracy.

I can imagine that the Finns fixed some of these problems with the m39. The front sight was changed to a blade, the stock is beefier, less prone to warpage, and more comfortable in prone due to the pistol grip hump. What about the trigger, any improvements there? How about stock fit and general smoothness of the action? I've read these rifles shoot "very well" are they a sub 3" shooter?

I am the new owner of a 41 SAKO M39. I have put about 75 rounds through it so far. Haven't shot paper yet just some casual plinking so I can't tell you about the sub 3"

They are the cadillac of Mosins. Trigger pull is very nice, nothing like a 91/30 very long and smooth. They feel very well balanced and heavy with very little recoil compared to Russian mosins. "Very well" is an accurate description I think unless you get one with a bad bore, I know mine seems much more accurate than my 91/30 at long distances (200-300 meters).

You won't regret buying it. I did a lot of thinking before I bought mine because it was a little more than I wanted to spend but I am really happy with it.
