This family heirloom of a non-matching K98 vet bring back, is not on the chopping block, But we're moving to a new farm with ample range (600+ yards) to shoot now.

I'm looking to turn my k98 into a long range target rifle until i save up enough to properly enter the precision category.
Great bore, and fantastic shooter.

I guess my question to the K98 experts
Looking for a non-permanent solution to step the k98 up to 600+ yards. No Drilling & tapping or cutting of any piece of the original.

Which leaves me with a scout mount, thus limiting scope magnification (7x zoom is the most i can find)
or a clamp on scope mount (Something like the ATI stock with clamp on upper)
i load on the hot side 50+grains imr4320 with 150grain bullet, Worried the clamp may mar the barrel or lose zero after enough time.

Definitely mixed reviews and really unsure of the best course of action. I'd like to be able to maximum the rifles potential and eliminate errors. Alot to ask!

I tend to hate all things ATI, so I would go for a sturdy LER mount OR use the irons. 600 isn't that far for open sights if you train yourself to use them.

With my old Swedish mauser and k98k, I used to shoot at my local range @ 500yards with the irons and had good results of hitting a metal ram maybe the size 35-40inches wide and apprx 24inches tall, so if your k98k is a good shooter- maybe try and buy some hornady 196 match bullets for longer range, and you will have good results.
