Has anyone else gone for this deal from Marstar? Is it worth it? I am getting into my SKS rifles now as my Yugo Mauser obsession is starting to falter. I figure this is a good way to get started. And can they ship the ammo to you, or must you pick it up?

I'd be shocked if Marstar actually had anything listed on their site IN STOCK.

Otherwise an awesome deal.

Since you're in Sask, shipping will kill you.

Russians have all milled parts and threaded barrels.
Chinese have a mix of milled, stamped parts and either threaded or pinned in barrels.

I have heard that these military versions are of par quality with their Russian counterparts. Marstar is selling factory 26 models "Sino-Soviet" models. Most of this talk of crap Chinese SKS' comes from imported Norinco models. Luckily the majority of those are in the States.

As for shipping, well... I haven't dealt with them before so I don't know how reasonable they can be. I am thinking I might get someone to go halves with. Buy an extra T56, then split the ammo. That should equalize the shipping cost.

I bought one. Thought it was a good deal. However the bullets are steel core and i cant shoot them at my indoor range. Found an outdoor location to shoot

I'm currently in the US where SKS's usually run $250-$350 when you can find them. Since the panic, they've shot up to $500. Best price on 7.62x39 ammo right now is about $150 for 500 rds, when you can find it. For $360 for 1440 rds and the rifle, I'd pull the trigger on that deal in an instant. In fact, I'd pull the trigger two or three times. :ar15:

Do not hesitate on the Marstar deal. If you want shipping costs just e-mail Frank at Marstar. He gave me a shipping quote to B.C. I could live with and he stood by it. The total to my door was $473.20.

Milsurp is Milsurp to my logic...

Ok, lets talk Chinese Type 56. I take it these are up to Russian standards and better than the commercial Norinco models.

Milsurp is milsurp, but the Red Rifle Forum is where the SKS is spoken about, both from Russia and China.

Chinese Type 56 Sticky in the Red Rifle Forum...

An SKS for $75 from Marstar thread, in the Marstar Forum...

All the info you could ever want and more about the Chinese SKS from Marstar, and in general.

Thanks allot for the tips. I think it is time to pull the trigger on a SKS collection. They are the Honda Civic of rifles. Soon there will be nothing but modified SKS around and no originals to speak of.

You may also want to look at this then, when it comes to Russian types to collect according to "Weimajack" who has seen his fair share of the Russian SKS...

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?839760-Russian-Simonov-SKS-1945-Collection

As per my knowledge, Russian Simonov SKS 1945 collection, should have at least 17 pieces.

Let's see how many SKS 1945 you'd need for a normal collection.

1949 TULA
1950 TULA (Early) Year of production and TULA star are engraved on top received cover just like 1949 one's.
1950 TULA (late) Year of production and TULA star are punched on top receiver cover.
1951 TULA
1952 TULA
1953 IZHEVSK
1953 TULA
1954 IZHEVSK
1954 TULA
1955 TULA (Hard wood stock)
1955 TULA (Laminated stock)
"D" Serie by TULA (Hard wood stock) Star on left side of the receiver
"D" Serie by TULA (Laminated stock) Star on left side of the receiver
"I" Serie by TULA (Hard wood stock) Star on left side of the receiver
"I" Serie by TULA (Laminated stock) Star on left side of the receiver
"K" Serie By TULA (Hard wood stock) Star on left side of the receiver
"K" Serie by TULA (Laminated stock) Star on left side of the receiver

Hope this will help you to complete your SKS collection.

Then of course you have the Chinese, with the Sino Soviet, the pre-66 version with the blade bayo, the post-66 version with the spike bayo, maybe a version with fibreglass jungle stock, and the commercial SKS-D (spike, bayo, no bayo) and the rest of the commercial versions.

And the Yugo M-59 "B" and "C" series, good luck finding an "A" series. And the M59/66 (iron sights), M59/66a1 (Phosphorous Sights) and the M59/66b1 (Tritium sights).

And also, most likely out of the USA, the Romanian and Albanian versions.

And the really hard to find Vietnamese and German versions.

And might as well throw a 55/56 Russian refurb into a Polish Wz.49 parade stock if you find one of those, just to round out the types. There are others when you get that far haha.

Shipping can be quite expensive.

On top of that, the Chinese ones maybe new but not as solid as the Russian ones. Please. nobody try to educate me, I have MANY.
