Terminal Garand disease and now the Enfield bug has bitten

I always focused on the M1 Garand and the 1911 pistol so am very late to the party when it comes to Enfield rifles. I just purchased my first Long Branch and the worm has turned big time!

Couple questions:

On my 1942 long branch the butt plate is a grey metal. Is this correct?

Is there a source for new replacement wood?

I would like to pick up a few sporters and put them back to correct as a learning process.

Ha Ha. I have it in reverse to you. Lee Enfields first and now Garanditus. Yes the butt plate is correct. Marstar has some new wood forestocks and theres always the place I like to see your name, the EE

tradex has top handguards.marstar has stocks and just about everyone is hawking buttstocks.metal bits especially bands are getting harder to find...

Thanks for the information guys. Garands will still be my number one addiction, in fact I just started working on another one (SA April 1942).

I will start picking up a few more Long Branch in between Garand projects.

With a Longbranch if you are putting new wood on it the Savage parts marstar has are more 'correct' than others. When the Savage contract ran out they shipped their spares to LB and it got used up there. The gray metal in the buttplate is called Zemac(sp?) I believe. They are nice rifles!

Long branch also produced rifles with steel butt plates.

Haha at least I'm not the only one that happened to. It started with garands, then m1 carbines, then 1911'& A1's. I remember traveling 3 hours to go pick up an all original 41 colt 1911A1 and when that gentleman reached into the boot room closet & pulled out a excellent condition original 43 longbranch I knew there was no way I was leaving with out it. The enfield bug bit me and I find it harder to collect the enfields being they were produced for so long by a number of different factory's. Btw good luck finding the cure, I'll let you know right now it's buy more enfields
