July 23rd 2011 - Terrace Rod & Gun Club's 10th annual service rifle championship. My little contribution to shooting sports in BC's Pacific Northwest in conformance with the AIM and Purpose of CFSAC RAM. We had 16 shooters this year (two of which were from Terrace) with a strong showing from the Kitkatla Ranger Patrol.

Thanks owed to:
1.... WO O'Connor from BC Company, 4 CRPG for advocating support for this match;
2. Terrace Ranger Patrol for supplying the necessary equipment to make this match possible
3. Floyd and Verna Wickie for volunteering to run scoring, registration and the rifle butts;
4. Troy Hansen for tallying up the numerous score cards and advocating this competition
5. Thanks too the shooters from near and far that enjoy service rifle shooting;

I learn a lot from every match. Next year will be even better. And Troy, I will eventually get off my ass and have your name prominently displayed on the trophy!

Two things come to mind - 1) it was a KITKATLA pay parade; and 2) your range has butts? Is it a military range or a similarly equipped club range?

Kitkatla were being paid - yes. Hard workers - especially the ladies of that Patrol - Positive attitudes - I'm very impressed.

Our butts were constructed by the RCE in 1943 - signatures, units and home towns of those soldiers stationed here are in our butts. In 1944 Terrace had 3000 soldiers garrisoned and only 200 local inhabitants. Nov 24 - 28 1944 Terrace was the location of one of the greatest incidents of military discipline in Canadian History when 1500 soldiers held their officers at gun point after PM King reversed the policy of conscription to fight in Europe. Our airport was also built under the war measures act. Branch 13 of the Cdn Legion here in Terrace was the quartermaster's building.

Pardon the newb's question but;
What constitutes a modern service rifle? Does a Norc M4 cut it? A SKS?
What constitutes a standard service rifle? What year are they cut off or caliber?
Cheers

For sake of ease I drew the line at 1955. Right around the time most modern semi-auto battle rifles were coming into play. A Norc M4 is perfectly acceptible in modern :) No calibre restrictions apply to small arms in this shoot.

You guys did a great job. Good clean fun. One thing I can't understand. Why did we have to wear hi-vis vests in the butts? That's the last place I would want people to see me. :D

Just in case you decided to lose your marbles and run out of the butts. We'd see you faster. :)

Well done RC!! Great video.
Now that I have seen the pics, I am really choked that I couldn't make it down river to this shoot. On the bright side, we have broken ground on our new range site and I will hopefully have a place to practice before next year's shoot.
Lee Enfields rule!

Holy Crapola! Last time I was in Terrace, I met up with some old friends.

Drove out to PR via the highway and then went fishing for Springs. I can't say I've ever gone for an SR course in Terrace, but will now have to consider it.

Provided of course that the river doesn't break the banks at Telkwa.

Anyone want to PM me on what's going on?
