Went to the range this morning and at the 50 yard distance, tried out six brands for accuracy.
Used my newly acquired Winchester Model 69A. Fired all tests in groups of five.
The performance of these various brands are about identical, to what I found in two other test of the ammo, using my made in Italy Weatherby XX22.
But here are the results from the Winchester rifle.

Worst ammo was Winchester Wildcat. 2.16 inch group.
Next worst was Winchester "Target," regular speed, about a dollar more per box. Group size-- 1.78 inch.
I had some old military, marrked DND, in 50 round boxes, used for training in WW2. They were just the old CIL "Super Clean." 1.46 inch group.
Then came Winchester, in 500 round boxes, high speed hollow point, 1.24 inch group.
Next was Federal "Lightning," Not sure if regular speed, or HV. .94 inch group.

And the winner is:
First group of CCI Blazers.

And here is another group of Blazer.

No extra shots were fired, every bullet is accounted for in the above calculations.
However, you must have a great, huge scope sight for this kind of shooting, so here is a picture of what is mounted on the 69A. A vintage Weaver B4, made in El Paso, Texas.

If you want the best accuracy out of YOUR .22 rifle, you have to test several different brands and weights. In almost every case, you can find one or two brands that shoot more accurately.

The only problem is that you are also testing a Batch of that one particular makers bullets. If you go back to the same store and ask for the same brand, it is possible that you will get a Batch made on a different day and these might not be quite as accurate as your original ones.

Another complication is that the stuff that works in your rifle might not be as accurate in your Buddy's rifle, even though he has the same model rifle that you have. Rifles are like fingerprints in that each is slightly different.

I love these Posts on this Forum asking what is the best and most accurate brand of ammunition to feed someone's particular rifle. It is almost impossible to do so, and you can only give your experience in what is the most accurate in your own rifle.

As you have found out, the results can vary wildly between brands, and a few dollars buying a box of different ammo to test can give you a good idea of the accuracy available in your own rifle. In your case, from 5/8 of an inch to over 2 1/8 inches from the same rifle under more or less the same conditions.

Gotta have some fun in this life!
I will be really glad to see you come to the range with your old timer and your new toy. Maybe if I wash my hands and promise not to breath on it, I could get to shoot the new European gal.
I would like to try out the same batch of six different brands with your latest 5.5mm.
As I stated in my first post, the results today were a near identical copy of what I did with the same ammo in the Weatherby.
Damn. I guess my stupid rifles can't read the brand names, and just shoot very well with good ammo and very poor with some other brand.

Forking lift project almost done and Yodave managed to find the mail box today too.
Hopefully tamarra I can slip some garmets on this gal.
Not sure what to do for a scope on her.
Legend 3x9x40, or the Tasco on the T-Bone or sneak the Trophy 6x18x40AO off
the fat little Swede.
Maybe I'll see what else is in the pickenik basket.
May have to go glass shopping...........hmmmm........ :D
