Operator pushes the unit back into position after each shot. larger calibers have a shock absorber and return spring to keep the block on the rails.

 
Yes. That test target was shot by Bill Wylde with his rail gun. A Kreiger-Obemyer set up, I think.

The video is unknown to me, but it demonstrates the speed that Bill often mentioned as a feature of a rail gun test.
