Just got back from a visit with relatives in Houston. Got in a few days of hunting Texas style. Drove 4 hrs to about 30 miles west of Austin. Private 1300 acres of leased hunting land. All arranged by family friend. Lots of deer and hogs. What is legal here is not legal there...check the regs. You either shoot the monster or cull the "junk". Hogs are "shoot on sight"....no restrictions...get "em all". You get lots of tags on your licence, 5 deer , turkey plus others...not sure. NR licence is $315.00 USD...ouch, but worth it. Season is Nov-March?? All equipment supplied by our host. Hunter orange not required.
My niece's husband never hunted so I let him do the shooting. He got an 8 point within 5 minutes of arrival. Deer are small bodied compared to ours but the antlers are comparatively large for the deer. This deer is only 1-1/2 yrs old. No fat on these. Deer are fed year round with enriched corn...nothing else. From what we saw it was 1:1 ratio bucks/does.

Hogs are hunted at night with night vision goggles/scopes...they got it all. When hunting deer daytime if a hog shows up you are encouraged to shoot them but gut shot only 'cuz you want them to run and not drop at the feeder.
We had a big boar in a trap which was given a 9mm sleeping pill then we carted him off and dumped him off a cliff for the scavengers. Tried a night hunt but the pigs didn't cooperate. Did get a party pig later. This piggy dropped at the feeder ( newbie mistake) but was small enough to get dragged out of the way.
Going back next year.
