Don't try this at home, boys and girls...

A Texas man was wounded after he fired a gun at an armadillo in his yard and the bullet ricocheted back to hit him in his face, the county sheriff said Friday.

Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe said the man, who was not identified, went outside his home in Marietta, Texas, at around 3 a.m. local time Thursday morning. He spotted the armadillo on his property and opened fire.

"His wife was in the house. He went outside and took his .38 revolver and shot three times at the armadillo," Rowe said.

The animal's hard shell deflected at least one of three bullets, which then struck the man's jaw, he said.

The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where his jaw was wired shut, according to Rowe.

The status of the animal is unknown.

"We didn't find the armadillo," the sheriff said.

Reporter must be hung over, on a slow news day. Lost at least a few chances to make the guy seem dumber. . Where is the fully automatic .38, or the assault pistol, wanted by police, US stats tied to canada. CBC will send him to the minor leagues......no wait ...hes already there.

Ya, sounds like the guy was shooting something (possibly pointed his revolver at his own face) and made up the story.

What I was thinking.
I have shot many of them early in the morining. They would dig up against the dog kennel and the dogs would be trying to wake the dead. Best pistol round for "zipper hog" defense was a Federal 45ACP Hydroshock although the old Black Talons would anchor them well.

No bullet "bounced off" an armadillo... they aren't made of steel... a .22 short would completely penetrate an armadillo... more likely, if there was even an armadillo present as the target, the guy missed and hit a rock and got "splattered."

Off topic a bit but worthy of note. While living about a mile north of the Toronto Metro Zoo in 76, was proceeding home after too much time downtown. I was slightly north of the Zoo and an armadillo ran across the road in front of me. Now I was not completely hammered and was pretty sure it was an armadillo but I was not completely sure. My room mate informed me the next day a few had escaped from the zoo that day (he worked there). Turned out I did not have to change my brand of beer after all, something I had briefly considered.

I know a fellow who broke an axle shaft on his 109 Land Rover. It was the third one of the year. In frustration he drew his loaded S&W Kit gun and opened up on the Rover from the drivers seat. The fourth shot ricocheted off of the steel dash and hit him in the forehead.

It probably would have killed a normal man, it just gave him a lump on his forehead for a month.

Did he try to shoot his gun with his other gun after?

Those little snub nosers with 2" barrels don't really develop much velocity. I'll say Possible. :)

This happened 2-3 years ago why are they reporting it now

The media campaign is ramping up against us.

Like an artillery barrage before the infrantry assault.

Harper had the CBC on a short leash; those days are gone and Sunny Ways have taken their place.

Why did they report it then? Sounds like anyone in armadillo country would know they aren't bullet proof. Written by a dunce two years ago... hmm, maybe that reporter works for the cbc now. They were probably hired as a gun expert based on this article.f:P:
