Three volunteers from the CSSA visited the Windsor Sportsmen's Club on the weekend and conducted a Range Safety Officer Course and a Club Level Safety Instructor program to our volunteer members. The full day instruction covered safety aspects, practical handling and provided our volunteers with the confidence and knowledge required to operate our trap and skeet ranges in a safe and friendly manner. Their instruction programs are recognized by the CFO and certainly brings our club and facilities up a notch. New shooters are always welcome at every club and at the same time, inexperienced shooters also present a challenge to many clubs. We discussed this aspect also and the CSSA provided great practical expertise on how to handle safety violations. Introducing new shooters to the safety aspects of how to handle their firearm instills them with the confidence to return again and again. I'm sure many sporting clay shooters have seen the newbie show up at their club with their new PAL or hunting course accreditation and all he/she wants to do is shoot and try out their new gun. That's great, but they must also learn that trap, skeet and sporting clay games are games with rules. I would encourage all clubs to investigate certified training for their RSO's. Sporting clay shooting interest is growing and with the proper safety instruction, our favourite sport will continue to grow is a safe manner also. Thanks CSSA volunteers for your time and knowledge.
