I want to shout out a BIG thank you to the Calgary Shooting Centre!

I figured my first gun should be something special. After reading target shooting pistol reviews people almost unanimously voted the SIG P210-5 as one of the best if not the best in 9mm. This version has the 180mm barrel. I thought I'd never have a chance purchase one, but CSC had one in stock. The CSC staff were very helpful and were able to answer all my questions.

If you are the type who names their guns, may I suggest "Pinocchio"?
Just kidding, and welcome to CGN.:)
I'm just jealous, betcha it's a straight shooter.

First pistol? Cool!!! That thing must be a tack driver. Welcome. And its time to buy a beater striker fired 9mm now since you have this old school sig. And a few more 9mm's for good measure.

It's much more accurate than I am as a beginner. I wanted something that I could grow in to. That's why for my second pistol, I purchased a Browning Buck Mark Standard URX 22LR. It's been a great way to practice. Cheap, fun to shoot and I'm not wearing out the P210. I've ordered the 5.5" Tactical Solutions Trail Lite 5.5" Threaded barrel and Fiber Optic front site for it. I'll post pictures when it arrives if there's interest.

Here it is unaltered / no upgrades:

Did you say wearing out a P210?

The Swiss Army tested the P210 to 250,000 rounds with no loss of accuracy. Even if you could buy ammo at $200 / 1000, that's $50,000 and sounds like you wouldn't have worn it IN yet, let alone out! I consider myself lucky to get 200 rounds in during a range session. 250,000 rounds would be 1,250 of my range sessions, which, if I went every week, would be good for the next 24 years.

I love that target barrel, and your pistol looks like you could put a standard barrel in, pop the front sight back on, and challenge yourself a bit. The shorter the barrel, the greater the magnification of shooter error. I think you've done it right though: get yourself the best, most accurate pistol you possibly can, and you will enjoy learning how to shoot. I wish I had done that...

Pfft, you bought the browning over the p210 .22lr conversion they have? :p
Although I think the conversion kits rarity and $1500 price tag makes it just as collectible as the 210 itself.
All in all, that is a beautiful purchase, I was debating it.

I see one of them in my future as well.

Sounds like it a very well engineered gun. Ive never heard of round counts that high and still accurate.

Gunzik: Thanks for the post regarding the P210's reliability. It sounds like I don't have to worry about wearing it out. I plan on keeping it, but if for some reason I needed the money it'd be nice to know how usage affects the resale value.

I've been mostly shooting the Browning Buck Mark due to the low ammo cost. I ran a 100 round box of CCI hollow point ammo through it when I got it and was having a misfeed problems every other magazine. I've switched to Federal bulk ammo and am having much better luck with it. I hear that 22 cal pistols have a break in period so I'm not convinced it was a problem with the CCI ammo. I've tightened up my groups to about 1.5-2 inches at 5m. It's time to move back further.

The P210 has been terrific. No malfunctions so far. I find I'm a bit more accurate with it than the Buck Mark. The first time out with it I got hammer bite. I have fairly big hands so I have to watch out. Not a big deal I didn't actually feel the bite, but saw it when I look down at my hand. I might cover the bite area with a band-aid in the future to prevent it.

Do you guys recommend that I use gloves to protect the walnut grips or will they clean up fine with something like Clenzoil?

Thanks all for the responses and well wishes.
