V:I:I understand many members, especially the new ones like me, generally have bad perception of the CFO staff-mostly the Ontario staff.V:I:

I, today, retract any previous comments made out of frustration about them.
From approving my test-in 1 day- I was able to get my PAL issued.

They did have a backlog of approvals at the FSESO, but after having a conversation with Shelly-a very nice lady, it moved instantaneously as the test had just been marked anyways. I simply told her I was looking for a job with Brinks or G4S (I've applied at Brinks already) and a PAL was a requirement.
She e-mailed it to me to avoid mail time, it was faxed instantly-and I was able to speak with the processing at RCMP to input it immediately as the fax came in (They need to certify it with your application). Eventually it went down back through the ONT CFOs office after interviews (me and my references did them right away this morning) and I spoke to Angela there. She told me it was instantly redirect to the local officer and gave me both the extension of the overviewing officer, and the supervising sergeant.
Had a quick conversation with the supervising sergeant within a few hours, and he said that he would take a final peek at the computer to verify after and if all was truthful I would have my PAL in 10 days.

So my advice to all in this unfortunate situation of dealing with the excessive delays-----CALL and CALL AGAIN! The staff at FSESO are back at full speed and have essentially almost caught up, they are I believe in mid-April now.
Be polite, and truthful. :dancingbanana:

Below is a quick catch up of my process I posted on the SHORTEN PAL TIMES threat (by calalta).

March 24 , app shows in RCMP system as received
March 26-27, Rest./Non.Rest. Classes

Emailed the results, and faxed immediately.
Interviewed by RCMP got refs. to call right away- sent to ON CFO.
Forwarded to local officer-interviewed again at 2:30 and said to expect it in the mail within 7-10days
Checked it 10 minutes after the interview:

Application Number: 10-............

Application Received on: 2011/03/24

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

See you guys at Silverdale!:dancingbanana:

Haha Yeah Sapper I called and called for the last 2 days, and guess what: Good results :)

Do the same my friend if it begins to drag, but your going to receive it soon anyways so its only a matter of a couple days for you too.

Good luck bud!

Vladivar, I don't think a thing will change for those who aren't in a rush for whatever reason or those who don't call. To be honest, the only reason I was able to get it through was simply because I called upwards of 10 times today. Plus 2 calls from the references.

Careful there or that might be interpreted as a case of harrassment.

I recall the last time I called a lawyer several times a day and she got all bent out of shape and told me she would have me charged with harrassment and it would cost me, to which my natural sarcastic reply was "how much"? Also told her anger was not good for her health and that she really should seek some anger management therapy for it. :D

CD

haha good point cdill. I didn't call the SAME people 10 times though :p

2 Calls to FSESO, then 2 Calls to RCMP(+2 references), Call to ONT CFO, then to Local Firearms Officer. Sorry misspoke, thats 8 calls:p But damn, it was definitely worth calling them rather than waiting for the call-thats for sure.

Point being people: Don't phone the SAME people 10 times a day, extensions counts as separate people though :p haha

As nice as it is to have things go smoothly.....the CFO nor any provincial office for that matter should have any part of firearms regulations.

Firearms are a federally regulated issue, outside the scope of provincial governments. Who ever posted above that they should all be fired is absolutely right, because none of their jobs should of ever existed in the first place.

The CFO in every province, is a zero value added type intermediary.

Yessir Onagoth, I agree 100%:agree: This is provincial boundary jumping:yingyang:. The federal system where they handle the processing and remove the provincial intermediary would be a good reform instead of the way it is now. I can't see why our instructors can't just give us our tests or even just call in themselves and notify the RCMP immediately that we are responsible with firearms.

What we have now is a friend of either this or a former government who was close and got this deal by fear mongering, plus earning a nice chunk of $$$ by opening a branch named FSESO that gets a government contract.

My post was simply a thank you to the staff for their kind assistance. Like I said the staff their didn't cause their FSESO to exist, politics did-its a case of misplaced anger. Don't shoot the messenger!:dancingbanana:

@Jamie, in Ontario we would prefer the federal government have the power. I'm sure those in Alberta would probably feel more secure with their provincial CFO. Just my 2c
