Usually I'm with family and we have the typical turkey supper but this year everyone is busy doing their own thing.

I decided I wanted a grouse thanksgiving dinner so I headed out this morning for a hunt.

Ever since opening day I had no real luck and only scored one grouse thus far, which I put in the freezer for future use.

There was frost on the ground, sky was clear and the sun was on it's way out so that confirmed my intentions for the day.

I went to my usual spot where I generally see at least one but they seem to evade me - however I did get 1 this time. A good start. A couple more hours of walking and nothing, so I tried a new area recommended by a friend.

It was a beautiful trail and a grouse was sunbathing right at the beginning of the trail! I was able to get him and continued on my walk where I eventually nabbed another. Some quads starting passing me so I took that as a sign to call it a day and headed home to make supper.

All in all it was a great day, my most successful ever and topped off with a delicious meal. Even have left overs for tomorrows dinner. Decent!

Hope you all had as good of a thanksgiving as I.

(Forgot to take a picture of the first grouse before cleaning him, oops)

...mmmmm..lookz delish.. just had me some leftoverz, I think the Grouse is tastier then the Butterball!

Cheerz ..~

I walked 3 miles chasing them today... Put up 6 birds and took two shots and wiffed on both of them... I have two in the freezer and need a third to have supper with my son... No frost here yet makes spotting them on the ground impossible with all of the weeds... Can't wait...

Fall turkey opens tommorow and I plan to take one for xmas but still looking for that third grouse... Congrats bud

Thanks all ;)

I would be interested in hearing how you cooked that

Nothing special - Bit of water in the roast pan, cover bottom with baby potatoes and onion and put bird parts on top. Put random spices on the whole ordeal (Parsley, pepper, garlic powder whatever smelled good really haha). Also tossed some bacon strips on top.

Baked at 350 for 1 hour.

Remove bird parts, cut it up and serve with the potatoes. Toss the onions and make gravy out of the liquid remaning.

Cheers!
