I'm not looking into collector value rifle I'm looking for a shooter something that will last. I don't wanna destroy collector value Rifle I want something of a clone or something with a new barrel I want it to look and function like a k98 but worthless so I can really shoot and have fun with it without ruining the value. I know Mitchells mauser used to make these but no longer do any help would be great.

the yugo ones were rebarreled by them . most come with very good to near new barrels installed. 8mm
the Israeli Mausers are 7.62x51 (308) thats what you should look for ,if your about the shooting. Easier to get ammo.

Marstar had a few nice Israeli examples recently.
James River also sells restored K98's

Get a Danish M52 or M58... German Mauser sportered with an S&L heavy barrel.
Go the Tradeex site, there are about 70 listed. Some in S&L target stocks, most others in sportered K98 stocks.

You want a worthless K98? Oooookay. Lots of good suggestions here, but your looking at a fair sized investment unless you find a cheap sporter, but even those are few and far between now.

The Yugo is a good idea. They have a reputation for accuracy. The Israeli 7.62 conversions also shoot very well in most cases. The one I had was a fantastic shooter.

If you really want to rebarrel one then I would suggest finding a sporterized one and restoring it from there. That would have the least impact on historical value.
