Sometimes in rare cases when bucks clash they get tangled in each others antlers. Since they can't eat and won't cooperate with each other they'll tire themselves to exhaustion and eventually starve to death.

Seen that around here a few years back.Fella that shot the one buck told us the other was already dead and the coyotes had already been chewing on it.We tried to pull the horns apart............not a chance in hades that was going to happen.
