The $116 shot. I always did hate that Chronagraph...

Well Tod, here's one for you to laugh at!

Nugget and I headed out to the range(pit) Saturday to start getting ready for his Antelope hunt this fall.

The snow was really deep and it was a fight to get the truck in there. Needless to say we couldn't set up our target in the usual location.
When we got set up, there pit has a high spot in the middle so we were too low to see the targets. Nugget used my shooting bench in the back of my truck. While he was mounting his scope I thought why not make sure my Chrony was going to work alright so I set it up on my tripod and thought I'd freehand a shot through it. Having done it lots in the past I wasn't worried.

I had prior to shooting just installed a Dayton trigger in my rifle and was excited to try it out. Well, first shot I pulled so bad I had no doubt in my mind whether the chrony was working or not. Let the pictures do the talkin!

This was the very first shot of the day of known load. No excuses, just impatience to cost me a brown dollar and then some!
I called the local sports shop 10 miles away and he had another on sale so we left the targets up and grabbed another one.
The dead one being a Delta, the replacement is called an F-1.
The screen on this new one are half again longer as are the rods. Boy does it work better than the first one. It always read error for some reason and made for lots of retesting sessions.
I guess it is a blessing in disguise, we'll see when Christy sees the transaction from the debit card at the sports shop!:kickInTheNuts:

Oh yes, I cracked the tang on my rifle while testing loads when we got back too. Let's call it a character building day!:(
Guntech, here I come!

My Chrony Master only begins to work if it warms up to 15 - 20 degrees F so I built a warm box with two litre bottles of hot water to keep it comfy. Have used to a little below - 25F with good results.

Redmist, I might have to do that, rest assured I will be much more careful from now on. No pun meant by the "rest assured" either!

Pat, that is funny! I hope your brother took it well.

Anchor3593, that is a neat tip, thanks! Truth be known it never was picky about the temperture so much as the bright sunlight. I think direct light on the eyes blinds it so it couldn't see the projectile pass by. It seemed to prefer the overcast days.

-25F Testing! Kudos to you sir for shooting in that temperture!

I didn't think the mirror was that funny. Did get the buck he was shooting at though.
And now I lent him my chrony. Only a matter of time til that gets shot also!!

Sorry Pat, I should have said that sucks! "Funny" can be interpreted too many ways.

Casper, call it a 154gr 7mm at 2830. The chrony actually read 2684 from the shot but I am not so sure it is as accurate reading times for penetration through it's eye as through the screens!

I've been tempted to do that myself:bangHead: Just couldn't afford it.Chrony occasionally tells me my .308 win loads are clocking over 5000f.p.s. with 155gr bullets. Some how I don't quite believe that.
