The 17 Mach2 isn't dying anytime soon.

There is a thread a rimfire central that discusses the fate of the hm2 that may be of interest. That site has a forum devoted to just the hm2.

Here is some encouraging news:

....
First, was Scott Volquartsen, whose company still manufactures a rifle (not just conversion) chambered in .17 HM2. According to Mr. V, sales for rifles chambered in the Mach 2 round have been unequivocably good. And to that, I say congratulations, and thank you for being one to stay the course! I hope success follows you in all of your endeavors.

Secondly, I worked closely with the North American distributor for Eley ammo. (from which our purchase was derived) Again, much to my surprise, the statement was made that HM2 ammo is going to most likely be available indefinitely. To that, it was also added, that more ammo is being sold now, than at any time in the last 3 or4 years. (who would have known?) And, aside from the group buy, spikes in ammo sales are noticed consistently in the spring, around the time when most varmints begin to stir. (there is a target market)

I have no intention of ever getting a HMR rifle, due to the merits of the HM2. And thanks to Clay for keeping low-cost HM2 ammo available.

HDY mach 2

Anybody have any idea where to get bulk Hornady 17HM2 ??? I have a custom 10/22 conversion that I built in mach2 (absolutely deadly to 125 yds+) but the rem/eley ammo is horribly inconsistent . Out of 50 rds I can expect at least 10 split cases ( and 2 ringing ears) with HDY I only get 1 every 3-400 rds

Olympic Arms was supposed to make a Whitney Wolverine in .17 HM2, but they canned it...

Are there any good revolvers chambered for it, yet?

Having looked at the HM2 - I do find it interesting that there is so much more interest in the HMR. I remember way back when it was only the 22LR and the 22WMR and it was no comparison the 22LR was way more popular then the 22WMR because of its cost and effectiveness. Today, People prefer the HMR to the HM2 even though they are pretty comparable and despite the fact that it is double the cost... It could be that the dynamic is changed with the people being able to opt for the much cheaper 22LR or go all the way with the HMR.

people have to remember that a lot of the people saying that HM2 is dying and a redundant round are the same people complaining that bulk packs of crap 22 are now a dollar more for 500 rounds at Walmart...

i love my 17s and really only have 2 22s left after using the 17s on pests, the 22s are delegated to teaching newbies to shoot....

I think that the problem with MachII stemmed from its introduction at really the same time as 17 HMR, which seemed to overwelm the machII. Had there been a couple of years between the two, I think the MachII would have been better received and enjoyed more popularity.
I have one in a Cooper and love shooting it, but I don't love it anymore than the variety of CZ's that I have in 17HMR. FS
