Dual-Discipline Contest – One Day

This is a multidisciplinary test of practical marksmanship and literary composition. Contestants are required to demonstrate proficiency with both bolt-action rifles and short-form narrative writing under pressure.

This is not a “fun shoot.” Scoring is cumulative across both disciplines. Poor grammar will hurt you. Missed targets will humiliate you. The judges are trained. Some are former editors. One is believed to be clairvoyant.

Required Equipment:
  • Bolt-action or lever-action rifle, .243 or higher
  • 100 rounds of reliable ammunition (match grade recommended)
  • Notebook, typewriter, or portable word processor (must not require Wi-Fi)
  • Backup pen (black ink only—blue gets you docked)
  • Hearing and eye protection
  • Ballistics data on your own character arcs, if available
  • Clothing suited for rapidly shifting weather and literary tone
  • Camp chair and one thermos (coffee or tea, not both)
