The 270win is the best cartridge to hunt with ever.

Hardware store availability:
.270
.30-06
.308

.303 and .30-30 could be added.
Even .300WM and 7MM RM these days.

I would feel comfortable with either of above, par from a charging Grizzly.
There isnt much you can "hold" in your hand that would make you "comfortable" with a charging grizzly bear, prepared maybe haha. That aside, the 270 is a fine choice for North American big game.

.270win is a rebranded 30-06 with .030" of an inch in diameter/calibre removed. There is no advantage to .270 over 30-06 which is the parent cartridge. Some clever marketing is what's made the .270 popular not it's performance.

In 2017, with the bullets we have available, there really isn't much difference between cartridges in the .270. 7-08. 30-06, .308 class, in average hunting situations (300 or less yards) on average Canadian game (moose, deer, black bear etc)

I'd rather hunt moose with 30-06 with a 180gr standard cup and core bullet than a similar 130gr bullet from a .270, but stick a 140-165 grain TTSX in any of them and things tend to even out.

You haven't read the contents of this thread, or contemporary literature. Plenty would disgree with you.

Spoken by one who has never hunted with a 270, or seen game killed with one.....

H'actually, the .270 is a rebranded .30-03, which is it's parent case.

And... it's .031" smaller.

And... the advantage is better BC and SD for a given bullet weight over 30 cal. At 500 yards the 130 grain .270 puts 20% more energy on target that the 150 grain .30-06.

The fact that the 270's popularity outside of North America is basically nonexistent speaks volumes. :)

What about the lack of popularity of the .416 Rigby outside Africa? Or the lack of popularity of the 7x64 or 6.5x55 outside Europe? Does that speak volumes too?
