Is anyone else trying RL26 with heavier bullets in the 06? My first attempt was very promising.

The velocities are realistic. My pet load with the 200 Partition for a couple of decades has been:
WW Super cases, R-P 9½M Primer, 59 grains of Norma MRP. Velocity in my 24" barrel is 2735, and
it shoots sub moa. Thumper load in the venerable old '06. Dave.

A 200 gr. NP bullet at 2750 fps would be excellent for elk and moose and bears. Well done. I have never tried RL 26, but the concept is intriguing.

I got similar velocities with the 200grn bullets over CCI250 primers and 57 grains of RL25. Accuracy is very good as well. My rifle, Antonio Zoli, prefers flat base bullets.

No compression of the load at all. Fills the case, Lapua, to the base of the seated bullet.

I've yet to recover a bullet, to get a good look at expansion. Exit holes on Elk boiler rooms are about 3cm or the width of a rib. Haven't found many bits, during cleaning.

The bullets I use are Speer Mag Tips.

Good timing on a thread like this... i just re scoped my "heavy 30-06" with the 250gr Hornady SP....... Yup , its a 35 Whelen....

However i have my LH abolt an i thought about how the 06 stacks up against say the 35 whelen when it comes to "heavy" in the 06 class.... i witnesed some big 250gr projies lug through some solid rings of hardwood behind my target with impressive results with recovered projie........ an it had me thinking, my Whelen is pushin 250gr at around 2400 fps..... some reloads for 200gr .35whelen are in the 2700fps range aswell....

Do i need more than a 180gr PPSN in 30-06? more than likely No - unless i were to hunt Buffalo again.

Nice to know the 30-06 is certainly in the game with the 200gr class! for if i needed the buffalo gun

A way back I loaded up some 220RN Hornady in my light weight 006. No cronagraft but by bullet drop we figured close to 2600fps. One of the most accurate rounds I made for it. My 300wsm likes them too.

Hmmm . . .

I try not to shoot 30-06's, but I did test RL26 against RL17/H4350 in a 24" Vanguard a couple years ago with 180gr bullets. I ran out of interest long before I hit the wall with RL26 lol
