The girlfriend and I went out to do a little plinking and to test out a factory 30 mag for my 597. Much to my surprise I near zero issues with it. To be fair when i bought it i loaded it up ( ....with snapcaps:p) and let it sit for four days to normalize the spring a bit. We ran a full box 500 rnds of rem thunderbolt with just few FTF, and one FTE. any other issues were just normal stuff you'd see with a bulk ammo.

Time for a new hammer and extractor for this thing now that I can use a decent sized mag.

I need to get another 30 rounder to try. The first and only one I got was a complete failure, failed to feed every two rounds with every type of ammo I tried.

My 597 has played nice with my factory 30-rounder since day one. Never did understand why everyone else kept griping about it...

what does it mean to normalize the spring ,I never heard of anything like that before .leaving a mag loaded does not do anything to the spring .I have left mags loaded for a few weeks and never see any change ,does not make any scense to me .please explain D

You guys inspired me to try out another Remington 30 round mag for my 597. I had purchased two 30 rounders 4-5 years ago, and both sucked so bad. I bought a clear 30 round magazine yesterday since some posts above seemed to have good luck with them.

Cross your fingers for me!
