First off!
Yes I do suck at target style shooting. No I don't own no expensive shooting vise. Also I love coffee & lotz of it in the morning. So this review is of me and what I like and dis-like about this new rifle line from Thompson Center.
Now what does it look's like out on the range;
Now here is the ammo that I was using to test her out with;
And this is the end resualts I got shooting 3 round bursts in under 9 seconds at 100 meter's;
Now it was a slightly windy, misty, overcast morning and a 100 meter's is longer than a 100 yards but hot dam 2 different group's double printing. I mean WoW for a rifle out of the box. The optic's and ring's I was using were from Nikon that were specificatly made by them for this rifle and mounting...
Well what a breaze. I mean the scope mount's are already part of the stock and the ring's were a little tricky to get the scope in there but after that what a dream. In under 15 minutes to mount and boresight. Try that with your Remmy, Savage or Tikka. The other great thing about this rifle is the fact that the rifle and scope only way 7.23 lbs and the rifle alone was 6.75 lbs. Then there 60 degree bolt and single round mag set-up was hard to beat for racking the action and loading a new round. Plus this bolt with it's insane locking lugs'...
WoW gives even us novice handloader's confidence that it won't have any issue's firing any round we feed it no matter what time of year it is. This three lug bolt design I can't say enough good thing's about. The trigger to is easly adjustable when the bolt is removed so you don't need a gun smith to do it and also don't have to strip your rifle apart either. The adjustale trigger is bang on only allowing you to adjust between 3.5 to 5 lbs, nothing more and nothing less. Plus removing the mag is a breaze and you don't have to worry about it actidently falling out ethier beause of it design. I guess the old saying still stands true...
"If you can put your name on it. You know it's made to the best of one's abilities."
This totaly stand's true with T/C cause every hand made Venture Preditor come's with the person's name that built it. Plus the 22" barrel and the Hogue grip pannel's realy make it nice and easy to move from the shouldered postion into the shooting postion. Also make's it a verry nice hiking rifle as it is less than the hieght of me when sholdered. As everyone in this forum has probally gotten there barrel stuck in a few twigs from time to time while hunting. Plus the factory recoil pad included at the back of the stock makes the recoil almost nil.
As for the draw back's on this rifle was the fact that the spent casings when ejected would leave little ding's in the camo pain on the reciever. Also this camo pattern is soft. Meaning after time it could come off in certain area's. But it dosn't really matter to me cuz Murdoc is going to put his famous Arma-Coating in flat clear on her. Another dis-like I had was there bolt release leaver located on the left hand side of the reciever. I found it does take some time to get use too as it can be a little trickey to remove and put back in. Also it is truley a pain in the back side getting in the allen key that is supplied to you in side the recieve to adjust it. Further more the alluminum bedding block found in the Icon is not present in this rifle stock. Instead it has been replaced by 2 alluminum post's in the stock. I guess it was needed to save wieght but how much really? These are the only fault's I could find with this rifle but I don't think there really all that bad considering the competion.
Also these reatil in the US for about $579.99 USD so hopefully when they make it up here they shouldn't be more than $700 CAD...
Hopefully.
I hope you all enjoyed my review and please post here if ya got any questions or stuff you may want anwser.
