The Best, "Cheap" M14 Scope Mount?

The best cheap mount is to buy either an ARMS or Smith mount used, then unload it when you no longer want it. You'll have something that works well and cost you little or nothing after you resell it. If you buy something cheap, probably made from aluminum, you'll curse it's poor quality have thrown your money out the window. I have a Smith mount and its been good to me.

That said, a Basset mount might work well for you. I've heard nothing but good feedback from those who actually have one. They are around $125 from the states.

Look at the bassett machine mount.

Two models, one $99, the other $149

I have both.

I once took mine off 4x in teh same day and took the rifle apart, I then shot a group < 2 inches, with not loss of zero. This is a very good mount for the money, and the $149 allows you to use your iron sights at all elevations

Robert, does the basset mount sit too high for use without a cheek piece?
cheers

I have the first version of the bassett mount on my rifle now. I have a simple 'Eagle cheek piece', the one with the attached ammo holder that holds 5 rounds. After taking it off last nite, I found it was a bit harder to use the scope, but not much. I think really depends on your body shape, I am 5'9" and it is really not hard for me to use the scope without a cheek piece, but more comfortable with it.

I use a super sniper scope, and my iron sight is a NM version, which means it is a bit bulkier, as a result I cannot raise my rear, iron sight much higher than for a 100 yard zero before the mounted scope gets in the way, however for hunting purposes this is not a problem as I would look thru the scope instead of the irons for anything beyond 50 yards.

I have a GenIII springfield mount, and for me it was a pain to get centered. With the bassett there was no problem, and as I mentioned before I have taken it on and off multiple times after its first zero and it always returns to a dead zero after with no need to resight the scope.

I will be going to the range today and will mount the picatinny version of the Bassett mount and let you know

I've personally tried 5 different m14 mounts..... and i use an ARMS 18 , no cheekrest , standard walnut g.i. stock. , i run the same mount on my E2 pistol grip rifle and i am going to go with the ultimak rail for my CQB/scout rifle.

I'm with Grizzlypeg on this advice. Save up for an ARMS 18 and later when your needs change, do another CGNutter a favor and sell it on the EE Forum here. You will likely recover ALL of your money, that says a great deal about the value of the ARMS 18 mount.

I still advocate this mount since it has caused me the least number of headaches and suspect inaccuracy issues over the 30 years.
