No Moose shot.
Many seen.
Here's what I wrote down.
Trip in was uneventful, once we got the army truck to stop leaking gasoline out of the carb.
Mostly the guys went and sat, except me, I wandered pretty much every day, stirring the pot.
Monday
CCC saw a Cow on the new deer lake trail, near the trail end at 8:35am.
I Saw a Barred owl in the Kernohan block. The bird appeared to follow me, lighting on a few trees as I walked the ridge along the creek.
In the afternoon, I saw a whitetail on the Island, as I was leaving, near the bridge. He snorted at me. about 6:00pm
CCC Saw 2 cows. The first, at 9am, at PPP's watch (where he shot the calf last year) the second at 11:00 am same watch.
He also saw two whitetails on his way out to Lunch near home pond, at 12:30, and another, on his way back that night at 5:45pm also near home pond.
Tuesday
I Saw a Barred owl on the ridge across the pond to the north, from the stone dam.
KKKK Saw a Bull and a cow on the island, where Bob shot his last bull at 8:00 am
CCC saw a bull? on PPPs watch He said it was a yearling, and was unsure if it had horns 8:30 am
Wednesday
PPP, 8:30 am cow, PPP's watch
I Heard wolves howling on the island, sounded very close, possibly as close as the pine tree (600 yards). 8:45 am
CCC, Deer, 10:15, deer lake block
Thursday
I found out, that you can walk off the "island" with dry feet. I went for an extensive tour, and was at one point a mile north of the Island by GPS. I realized I was off the island when I found a beaver dam, and someone elses’’ flagged trail. It was late, so I took a GPS bearing and returned to the island, aborting the attempt to dog Deer lake from the island. I started two moose, although I did not see them, they were close enough for me to hear the heavy hooves. Also, I had to pass up an easy shot on a very stupid whitetail buck. (Damned seasons anyway
)
Frogs everywhere, it's very warm.
Friday, Raining
BBB saw a doe halfway down deer lake trail at 8:10 am
HHH saw a fox between home pond and the green swamp said he thought something was wrong with it, as it acted funny.
I Found two very much alive and I think maybe mating? garter snakes in the kernohan block whilst dogging it off.
Rained like hell!
Saturday
I successfully dogged the island then from the pine tree, through the deer lake block to the fireplace. Jumped a deer at close range, whilst yodelling like a hound near the fireplace corner at 10:45 am.
The trip out went ok, we had to help both HHH and JJJJ up the big hill because it was slippery and they had trailers. We hid in the new "garage" the bay camp has set up until a heavy rail passed. Then JJJJ got stuck once more in a mud hole, and winched himself out. The army truck had a badly leaking tire, that we pumped up at camp using a sparkplug tire pump.
Notes:
HHH was sick with a cold all week, and actually stayed in for a bit one morning and went back to bed because he felt so bad.
Food was excellent as usual, the steaks, were a bit on the tough side.
We had deserts running out our ears
It was agreed by all, that the week went way too fast, and we all had a great time.
Many seen.
