This is a fun little salt gun, you can find out all about it here: www.bugasalt.com
Basically, it's a 'shotgun' that shoots table salts (and I guess you can use sand too) to kill flys, mosquitoes, and other small insects.
I ordered one some time ago. It's a new company and they had trouble with international shipping, but they found a distributor for Canada and I received mine yesterday. The whole gun measures about 22 inches, with a 7 inch barrel and a high-capacity magazine (enough salt for 50 shots).
From 2 feet away, the salt failed to penetrate a single layer of newspaper. I held my hand about 8 inches from the muzzle and shot it, it stung somewhat so yes, I think it has no problem killing small insects at close range. Will it kill them humanely from 3 feet away ? I'm not so sure, and I guess I'll have to wait until summer to find out.
This thing is good for sprinkling salt and seasoning onto food. For example if you're baking a tray of potatoes, you can just give it a few shots from a few feet away.
I suspect the barrel is a .177 inch airgun barrel, but a very thin one. I could easily load a .177 BB from the muzzle and the BB flew out and went thru a layer of cardboard with no problem. I think I'll open the gun up and see if I can place a small magnet at the end of the barrel, so it can double as a .177 BB gun.
