Can someone tell me if The Bushmaster Varminter would be considered restricted or not? From what I understand if the barrel length in greater than 18.5" and the total length of the gun is more than 26" the gun should be non-restricted. Please tell me if this is wrong.:50cal:

So any variant of the ar15 is restricted? That is what i thought but the guy at the Wild West Shooting range in west Edmonton mall had a bushmaster
.223 with a barrel length over 18.5, and said that it was non-restricted!! Didn't sound right to me so i thought I would ask. You would think he would Know better!!

All AR15's are restricted.

He lied.... Those guys know about as much about guns as politicans do, and i usually refuse to go there. They're known around the other gun shops as "the place to avoid at all cost" :p

I bought my first handgun there, and it took them almost 2 months to get the the thing registered, and then call to get the temporary ATT (of course most of those 2 months was me calling them every week asking them to call and get it registerd )

If you can do it, i'd say go to P&D enterprises, its about 5 minutes north of Grant Macewan college. Those guys are SO much more helpful, and just great people to deal with! :D Plus they have lots of AR15's and other tacticool rifles/carbines, great selection of pistols, as well as a metric S***ton of hunting rifles, shotguns, reloading supplies and other good stuff!

I bought my Ruger 10/22 and my new Benelli M4 from them, as well as my Dillon RL550 press, and other supplies! My friend got his Sig P226 from them also, and it took a couple weeks for him to get it home.

I believe that the appropriate unit of measure when speaking of that volume of firearms is the Metric Butt-Load:D

Well I will have to remember to avoid them then! I am fairly new to Alberta. Was at West Edmonton Mall with the with the wife and thought I would stop in and have a look. But now I know to Look only and not to buy!! I have all ready dealt with the guys at P&D. Ordered some Burris bases for my .223 from them. Great service and fast shipping!

tongue_fu_jr i think you were looking at the Armilite AR-180b which is a non restricted firearm.Just bought mine from wild west Friday. My bushmaster AR-15 9mm is restricted.

F22_RaptoR i really dont think the guy behind the counter lied.I think this is a case of miscomunication. Im my opinion i think places like the Wild west range only benifit this sport. My daughter took me there this year for my birthday and now im a gun owner 3 time over.
Doesnt bringing new members into the sport only insure that we can keep shooting?
The service i have recieved at wild west has been top notch and their dedication to make new shooters 1st time out enjoyable. My daughter loves to go there and shoot and the tips we have recieved from the staff have been great.

Well have you ever heard of a competitor saying another is great and you should spend your money there instead?

But what do i know.

It very well may have been a miscomunication!! I never picked up the rifle, I just asked him about it. He did say that it was a bushmaster and that it was non-restricted. I think W-Sqared and Westjet are right, abuot the miscomunication. I don't know much about the Ar style guns, as I am just starting to think of buying one. And the sounds of a non-restricted one sounds nice!

Well, it could have been a miscommunication, but from my experiance it was either a blatent lie to sell a product (and i have had them lie right to my face) or them just knowing absolutely nothing. If it was an AR180b, they could have just "called" it a bushmaster... But they are pretty different looking compared to an AR15...

They were trying to sell me USP tactical mags for my Mark23, even though i kept telling them they WOULD NOT WORK. They told me right to my face, that i was wrong and they knew it would, untill i proved them wrong by trying to stick one in a mark23 they had on display, and guess what? didn't fit :p (would have been easier to say "ohh they dont? we have a mark23 we can try tem on to make sure") They also snuck an 80 dollar range pass onto my Mark23 magazine purchases (after they got some in) after i had told them multiple times NOT to add it... (good thing i cought it, but that really pissed me off)

There are just so many BETTER places than WWSC.... And yes, i have recieved "recomendations" from gun shops to go to other gun shops for certain things ;)

In any case, i always try to avoid them. If you had good luck with them, im glad because it would really suck to have them turning so many people off shooting with bad attitudes. but the experiance i got from talking to the people there, is that they're a bunch of inexperianced "salespeople" that try to sell products they dont know about. Of course this is just how I feel about them. I would not doubt there are a lot of people that have had really good experiances with them :)
