I have recently picked up a magnetic Bushnell boresighter and sighted in two rimfire rifles with it. It does not have the arbors and it takes a little guess work to line things up. I do not have complete trust in this thing. Are these any good or am I wasting my time with it, pitch it and buy a diffrent boresighter??

I sue one and it works quite well. You need two things; a small piece of cloth tom keep the blueing from getting worn if you slide it up and down, and a caliper to determine the distance fro the center of the bore to the center of the scope. I have ahigh mounted scope on a target rilfe and the arbour system would not put it remotely close enough to be useful.

I wondered the same thing. There was one on sale at Walmart the other day for $5.00 so I bought it to try out.

Yes they work. I just centre it visually and for height I do the same thing match it with the middle of the scope, once that is done.I dial in the scope so it centers on the grid(in the boresighter) then I remove the Boresighter fire one shot and it is on the paper at 50 yds(that is if the scope is installed correctly). With mine it is usually about 3-4 inches off the bullseye and a little low to the left. Then out to a 100yds to do final adjustments.

I have one and have used it on several rifles. I have found the sweet spot on the grid and dial all of them into that spot. I have always been on the paper at 100 yards and have just had to fine tune. You just have to eyeball the the height. I have also put a piece of tape over the magnet so that it does not scrape the bluing.
I have not tried it on an AR yet, I will next month when my new one comes in.
I also keep it in my range bag and have helped out several people at the range.

I have used it a fair bit on guns chambered in 204 Ruger for other people because I don't have an arbor for that caliber. Nobody has come back and said I owe them a box of ammo so I guess it does a good enough job of getting them on paper.

Hi, I have one as well. Yes it works pretty well, it's the only one I have so I can't compare to another type though. I as well put a piece of tape on the magnet to prevent damage. I use a piece of string to line up the height of the bore sighter with that of the scope. Puts me on paper a 50yds first shot ,then fine tune from there.

cheers
