Hello,

I am looking for information on the banded 303's. I know that there were a few articles written about it in The Canadian Journal of Arms Collecting. Since I wasn't around back then, well I don't own these issues. (Before you mention it, I have tried contacting Joe Salter who is now the one who seems to have taken over the Museum Restoration Service website, but have yet to receive a response).

I was wondering if anyone had these at home and if it'd be possible to scan a copy so that all may profit. I have Vol3 No2 (1965) at home but it doesn't have a whole lot of info in it. I am looking for Vol3 No4 (1965), Vol5 No3 (1967), Vol8 No4 (1970) and Vol36 No2 (1998).

Thanks,
Jonathan

Tucked away downstairs in one of many boxes are Vol 1 #1 and then up to about 1980. Busy at "before winter jobs" for a couple of weeks but should be able to find the first three you list after that. PM please. Kayceel

Peter Labbett wrote a series of articles entitled "The Banded .303s".

Series ran for about a year in GUNS REVIEW magazine, Ravenhill Publishing, London, England, back about 1965/66.

The series was later published as a book.

Peter wrote in a very terse style, but he packed more FACT into less WORDS than any other writer I have read. He is also known for his MILITARY SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION OF THE WORLD which he wrote with PJF Mead and for ".303 INCH", which is the ultimate history of the .303 cartridge. In writing that book, he used his own collection of .303s (1800 rounds, all different) and he had access to Bert Woodend's collection, the finest ever assembled: 3600 rounds. It is highly doubtful there will ever be a more complete book.

Hope this helps.
