The "classics"

8x57
30/30
250 savage
30/06
375hh
Each have a historical legends and advanced cartridge design

However personally classics to me are
45/70
250 savage
275 rigby
303 brit
450/400 3"
375hh

For the Continent:

.220 Swift for small predators
.275 Rigby for deer sized game
.300 H&H for moose-sized game
9.3x62 for dangerous game from the great bears up to, but not including rhino or elephant
.404 Jeffery for the last of the Big 5 and a stopping round

For the Americas:

.22 Hornet for small game and short-range predators
.30-30 Winchester for deer-sized game (substitute for .303 British in Canada)
.270 Winchester for Moose-sized game and long-range/mountain hunting
.35 Whelen for large game in heavy cover and a dual-purpose Bear gun on a non-Bear hunt
.45-70 loaded hot for a Great Bear gun at stopping ranges/cover for 3/5 Big Five

303 British. My Dad's hunting group thats all they carried. The running joke was they only needed to buy one box of ammo for their hunting season.

O my,there are so many classic cartridges..30-30 Winchester,.32 Winchester Special,.303 British,.30-06 Springfield,.405 Winchester,.300 Savage,.250 Savage,.45-70 Government etc,

Would also add one cartridge that is no longer chambered or in production the .50-110 Winchester.I suppose if we get into discontinued cartridges, that opens a whole other can of worms.:)

Well, being a good Canadian boy, I’ll go with:

.303 British
30-30
6.5 MS
30-06
.22

These would be the Canadian Classics. In the earlier 1900’s, there were lots of 6.5 MS rifles in Canada. Nothing needs to be said for the other ones.

Erm, if it's a Canadian list, the .280 Ross? A .270 Win, twenty years before the .270 Win.

22 Long Rifle - small game
22-250 - varmints
6.5X55 - light big game
30/06 - medium big game
