Cooey Model 60 that I cleaned up recently.
Came to me covered in black Tremclad, beat up and rusty. Bubba even carved his initials in the stock. Turned out ok. For sale on EE now.

Found a Cooey Model 35 Pump

Guy said it was OEM but the stock sure looks different.

Thinking maybe Pine or maybe even Hemlock...certainly not Cooey Walnut.

Field stripping, you could see it was a home made stock.
Top is from a repeater 60 bottom is the stock off the 35.

Pump handle wood was OEM, that is what I tried to match.

Stripped off whatever was on there, once dried, it looked like the above pics, a very light colour.

Gave it a few coats of Miniwax Special Walnut oil, but it did not soak into the lighter grain .

Gave it three extra coats of Miniwax Ebony Oil.

Closest I could get to match the pump handle wood.

Few coats of BLO and Antique oil 50/50.

This is how it turned out.

On a scale of 10 for smoothness of pumping....it's about a 1-2....LOL

No wonder old man Cooey gave up on making a pump!!!!

Next project is to find a Winchester 61 pump...heard they're a bit smoother...
The grain of the butt stock wood does not look right. If someone made this stock they did a great job but with the wrone wood
I think.

I just joined here last week, I thought I would post up my Cooey’s in this thread. While I don’t pass by the old factory location, I do go through Cobourg almost every weekend during the summer on the way to the Cottage. The first one is Model 82. My father gave it to me when I was 16. I sanded and refinished the stock, and cleaned off the rust from the barrel and cold blued it. It’s the only rifle I have ever used, and haven’t shot it since the 90’s. Since joining here, I have learned that this may have been a cadet training rifle as there are numbers stamped on the bottom of the pistol grip. And while cleaning out my father’s old house last month, I found the stock extension in the basement.

I was going to get rid of this rifle, as I only have room for 4 rifles, but I have since decided to get rid of the shotguns, and keep this little piece of Canadian history. Besides, it’s got sentimental value.

Next, is a Model 64. It was also found in the basement amongst a dozen other firearms. I’ve already ordered the 64B magazine conversion, and hope to restore and use this rifle. As you can see, it also needs a trigger guard. Will be relying heavily on this forum for advice. Stay tuned.

I also have a Cooey 12ga. break-barrel that I will be putting up for sale along with the rest of his old shotguns.
