Crusader Arms is doing a pre-sale on a 7.62x39 mm Templar variant, the Crucible. The estimated ship date is August 31. There has recently been a piston system failure noted on Reddit for a Templar, but that may have been a gas plug with no lock washer; time will tell if there are more failures. The competitor WK181-C has a much improved gas system, but did have a bolt failure noted along the way on one group's 10,000 round test. Whether the Crucible uses a more robust bolt modified from the heavier Crux remains to be seen. Will people be willing to pay a premium to have an HK-slappable 7.62x39 mm with Galil-style stock over the WK181-C? Time will tell. Anyone who gets the firearm, please post your feedback, troubles, pictures and modifications to this thread. Thanks!

Pre-sale link, https://www.crusaderarms.ca/product/Templar/24?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false. Probably available for sale at forum sponsor vendors in September.

Pictured below is the Galil stock version; also availble with the Templar standard ACR style stock. The pre-sale is for the milspec trigger, but I suspect the Triggertech will be available, along with a 1913 stock rail Solo version. It would probably look good and work well with a Midwest Industries Alpha AK adjustable folder.

Any video out there of it being tested? If it can reliably run steel surplus I'd be in for one.

Yeah I would be down for one as well. I feel this could fix a nice gap between the questionable M10x and a mass produce type81 rifle. Although the m10x has it's issues the trigger and the mag catch are great. So was the accuracy, for me anyways. My hopes are the crucible will win where the m10x failed

I bought and have coming the next few days and have a Tavor 7 .308, and Raven 5.56. Looking at a 9mm smith and wessen FPC for absolutely no reason other than its between a 22 and 5.56. I dont need a 7.62x39, so please talk me into buying one too. I hate money.

This rifle looks gorgeous.

It would be interesting to see the WK181-C x39 bolt face compared to the Templar x39 bolt face. I think one of the beefiest x39 bolt faces was on the Robinson XCR-L?

Hopefully they are using a version lf the beefier Crux .308 bolt.

How nice would it be to have it use t81 mags. I know with the us sale market they will most likely go with the ak mags. But is it possible that a rifle can use both successfully? Never cared to compare the two mags so I dont know the difference.

Is the Crucible being made in the USA or Canada? I'm guessing USA?

Both, probably. U.S. import laws means in general a modern firearm need to be assembled with a certain percentage of American parts on U.S. soil. Crusader probably sends a parts "kit" of their proprietary parts from Canada to their U.S. factory to be assembled there. Canadian made guns have the U.S. parts added to the Canadian parts in Canada.

I received mine a few weeks back

Have not taken it out yet.

Glad you finally got it. If you don't mind answering a few questions: Does it have a last round bolt hold open? If so, does it use the AR15-style paddle? I guess AKM mags don't do last round hold open?

Also, did they end up going with three recoil spring guide rods or two with the Crucible? What brand and type of magazine did it ship with?

Did you get it with the handguard with M-loks and lightening holes as shown in the image above or more like the Gen 2 Templar, which has more M-Lok positions?
