The death of 14.5?

14.5" is the perfect carbine barrel length.
14.5" with carbine gas will cycle anything you put in it.
Plus it's light. Almost too light for the amount of power, accuracy and maneouverability you get out the gun.
Anyone who has handled a bare bones C8 style carbine with a 14.5" pencil barrel can vouche for that.
14.5" appears to be in demise because of the U.S. dumb ass laws regarding barrel length on "assault weapons" is all. If not for that, it would appear to be popular, alive and well and also much more being produced for the market down south of the border.
The standard U.S. Army and CF as well are all still rocking it because it's awesome and it just works, every time ;)
It's the only one I would settle with for my light weight Model 653 build. Daniel Defense makes a sweet light weight 14.5"!

I am on the hunt for a 14.5 AR and I find it really hard to find one. Most AR's are 16 inch and over? Even on Irunguns, most of their ARs are 16inch an over.

Why is this. Are 14.5 inch barrel a dieing breed? I find it impossible to find a nice 14.5 inch AR with a Fixed Front sight base/ post.

Civilians in the US can't own firearms with a barrel length less than 16" unless they apply for an SBR NFA and pay the tax stamp. You could just buy a complete URG from Wolverine or Irunguns that has a 14.5" barrel already on it. Like the DDM4A1 or Colt LE6921, then just mate it to your choice LRG.

When I bought my first M4 it was 16" barrel, so I bought a 14.5" barrel for it. No big deal, but cause my range only went to 200yards max, I didn't see any change to accuracy or anything that would have made that transaction worth it.

I've got one of the few 556 marked 14.5" gov't profile Armalite M15A4's in Canada sitting in it's box....hell, I haven't even looked at it for 3+ years. I like the shorter guns personally.

I agree, I thought changing my old M4 from a 16 - 14.5 would make a big difference in aesthetics, length and comfort. It didn't, until I bought my MK, that's when I got really into SBR/PDW size rifles.

My Daniel Defense M4A1 MilSpec+ is 14.5".

I have a Daniel Defense 14.5" M4 profile barrel that replaced my 16" mid-length, "SOCOM" profile (believe it or not...) barrel. I won't be going back to a 16" barrel ever again.

^Just happens to be on the M4A1 clone that I built. :p

its not...

- its not hard to find, just at this moment most vendors here are out of stock (not just 14.5 bbl. but many other common stuff)
- IRNGUNS is bringing US crap over and they prefer 16s over there cuz of there SBR rules
- while bbl might not be available, many uppers are with 14.5 :)
- lastly if you want just the bbl, get it off Brownells

All this discussion about 16" barrels and our good fortune here in Canada, makes me feel warm and fuzzy. One would think our laws suck (here and there) but now I'm really grateful we can have any barrel length we want or can afford. :)

Then I read about prairie dog shooting with an AR 20" NM setup, and I'm jealous.

Hey, it's all balancing out!
