what a hunt.:) ....deer sign all over the place:) ..was the one of the best years in ages to see so much sign.... but only three deer seen in a week.... none were giving us a good clean shot to harvest. .
so instead of bragging here with pics of a full meat pole..
i have to brag of a great week in the bush ,with great company/tons of giggles/crap loads of good food:dancingbanana:

I'm thinking you were hunting a heavily hunted area and the deer went nocturnal if there's alot of sign.

I had fresh tracks all over my stand in the mornings but never saw a deer from that stand all week. The trick is to find their beds and head em off at the pass.

Sounds like your hunt week was like ours, forgducker! Except at least you had tons of deer sign.......

The hunt is the thing, and meat is just a very pleasant bonus when it happens.

Sigh... I was going to post pretty much the same thing :(

There wasn't a deer to be seen the last three days I just spent hunting. Lost of tracks and sign about, but little in the way of scapes and rubs. I'm thinking the deer weren't happy with the unseasonally high temps and came out to play only at night when their winter coats were comfortable.

It was a great year anyway. And whatever we didn't get this year will just be that much larger next season :)

Next year Fogducker! and you will have the "two legged deer" there for a full week! ;) ;) ;)

We had a great first 2 days, 26 deer seen by 7 guys, never saw another until Wed. of the second week, 7 hunters full time until Saturday of the first week. Bit wierd must have gone nocturnal. So I was forced to switch to bow hunting, bagged a nice buck last night. Back out tonight for an encore I hope.

I didnt have any luck either this year. In nb, noctornal deer are my main problem as i seen about 13 deer all before legal light, and only 1 (doe) walk under the tree stand only minutes after first light.

i had an amazing spot that i was watching since last fall and got familiar with two local bucks (one with only one antler). i had the place marked off and had been putting out apples for weeks and when i went to build my tree stand, some jackass had torn down my markers, and put apples in EXACTLY the same spot mine were, and too his credit, actually buiilt a pretty nice stand. pissed me off though. i wont lie and say i didnt think about cutting the f*&kign stand down ...so instead i just took his apples, built a new stand in another place...oh yeah and hung bounty sheets up around his stand to give him a challenge. yes that makes me a jackass but he went through the trouble to tear down my markers which i had there for not just weeks, but since late august!

Competition can make it tough to find Deer, but as long as you enjoy the hunt that is what counts. My wife and I hunted a new piece of land [1 suare mile] this year with our muzzleloaders. I saw 25 Deer is one corner of the field, and there was as least as many in the far corner, with a bunch scattered in between. I never saw another hunter, until the second week, and we were done by then. This is the first year we have just hunted the muzzleloader season, and dropped the rifle season all together. The Deer were not spooked, and still hunting was great.

Well brother in law and 556nato each shot a button buck tonight so my extra for tag for the bow zone is gone, now all I have to look forward to is MZ hunting. Final score 8 deer for 7 guys 4 of which I let the air out of. A good season with lots of good eaters taken. Guess I will clean up my gear and start working the yotes over, only 11 months and 2 weeks left to wait.

My Manitoba hunt for whitetail was a tough one.5 days and one deer sighting
a decent buck at 75 yards that a buddy of mine missed two broadside standing shots:( .I have hunted three different locations up by Narcisse and
Libau. The two locations in Libau are 7 miles apart.I have posted on cutlines,
over alphalfa fields, still hunted bushes, hunted swamps, walked bush trails but to no avail.I have tommorow and the next two saturdays left to hunt.Hopefully my luck will change. On the bright side my dad did take a 2x2
and a 5X5 with two broken tines on the one side on opening day.I will post pics if i can ever get my kodak photo share to work.

had the same problems here when the season opened, lots of sign but no deer, took 2 day to figure them out, little buggers were going nocturnal.

really odd for the beginning of november, they went into rut mid second week but I was at work. :( and now its fairly quiet again.

And I have only 1 tag left :)

In those first 4 days we managed to get 7 between the 4 of us but only saw them at dawn and dusk. Moose however were all over the place, but its all on the draw in that zone.

The deer in my neck of Manitoba have also been going nocturnal. I hunt behind the house along the Assiniboine river. It seems every night 20 minutes after I get in the house our dog starts going crazy. A friend came over the other night an hour after legal light and said he saw a 5x5 on the edge of the field. I tried for the next two days but saw nothing. I have a few days this week and hope I can get him.
