Saw this online and it got me interested in English Dog Locks: http://www.waynetracepouches.com/2016/12/dog-lock-trade-musket.html?spref=fb

Does anyone on here have any more info on dog locks or the possibility of some pictures of the mech on the inside? I think it mights be a neat project to make one of these.

thanks

A lock of that pattern would have conventional innards, probably without a bridle on the tumbler.
Years ago, I made a lock very much like that. Never did make the rest of the gun.

to me the lock looks awfully crude as if it was a modern made lock. On many originals, the shape of the back of the #### and of the dog allows the #### to push the dog out of the way when you go from 1/2 #### to full ####. The dog is a sort of safety that prevents the #### from falling unless a person fell and in doing so, pushed the #### back a bit which would disengage the dog. The dog on the gun above would prevent it from being disengaged except by deliberately disengaging it manually

Thanks for the info. I'll take your word that it looks crude. I'm not an expert on a dog lock. I did think though, boy that can't be too hard to file our of metal. Hmm, looks like fun. So I'm interested more out of curiosity than anything.
