Hi,

I bought my savage used, so I don't know the actual round cout it's seen. I've probably put 2 thousand round through it... my question is how do you know when a barrel is nearing the end of its life expectancy? It's .223... and I've started to notice some subtle changes in its accuracy...

Thanks for your help.

Subtle changes huh? It's hooped, you need a whole new gun, I'll give you $10 + shipping for it for parts. :D

Seriously, as long as the gun isn't being rapid fired you should get a good 4000+ rounds through it before accuracy starts being affected.
How subtle are the accuracy changes? Is it your powder lot maybe or bullet lot that has changed?

Look at it this way. Odds are your gun is fine. A good electrolytic cleaning will probably bring it back.

Even if the barrel is pooched, it's the easiest gun in the world to have rebarreled.
