I can't help but remember that Bob Lee Swagger, the sniper in Stephen Hunter's books, was said to use red Loctite on his rifles. I believe that was in the first novel I read 'Point Of Impact' and I remember thinking 'You are way ahead of me, Bob Lee.' But he was careful indeed, also being the man who shaved a few mm off his stored guns' firing pins, rendering them apparently functional but incapable of firing, in case he ever went to court accused of abusing his skills, LOL.
