As it is the FAL is a very good gun. Aside from rails I think it's fine as is. The SCAR is cool but it's just not the same. I have had time to shoot both in proper form (autos) and compare twice now and came to the same conclusion both times... The SCAR may be more modern but it hasn't got a lot on the FAL.
I kind of like the original wood, The Brit plastic was O.K. as well
308 in an 11" barrel is likely comparable to a 762x39 too.
I like the wood on the Israeli FN
The .308 is a heavier bullet and has better BC.
yea x39 has nothing on a SBR 308. Even if you compared a 20" barreled x39 to a 10" barreled .308 you can still get a 180gr projectile going 2200 fps out of a 10"barrel in the 308 vs the 24-2600fps of a 123gr bullet out of the x39.
I wish we could own the FAL here, and I still am kicking myself for not buying a famae sg542 before may last year, as it is the closest thing we have.
One of our gun shops in town has old FALs show up now and again for prohib consignment. Someone has an agreement to purchase whenever they show up and then sends them in to make them deactivated where he then sells them.
Makes me sad how stupid that is and that we are losing these beautiful rifles
Maybe someone should make a better deal.
I would save every one if I had a prohib license
Nothing against the guy converting them to inert steel; I'm just sad that they were placed on prohib in the first place preventing lawful and legal ownership.
