The Fix rifle, a dream that became a nightmare

HUH. You're worried about some scratches that are absolutely invisible once the barrel and handguard is installed. Seems like you're getting worked up over something that's not that big a deal.

Well, it's a tool allright. But if they mess up the finish so easily, what should I expect from the rest of the rifle? Never any problems like that with any other gun, and I have more than 20.

I'm just pissed and I hope the rest of the rifle will be fine and perform

I totally get where you're coming from, and it is an expensive rifle, you have every right to receive untarnished components. Its just not something I personally would've been overly concerned with. As mentioned, I have yet to spend that much on a factory made firearm.

Yeah, I hope the rifle will perform, anyway I intent to "beat" the #### out of it in the field so cosmetic will be gone before long. I won't stress anymore once I got my replacement barrel.

Best regards

I don’t know about you but my idea of a nightmare is my rifle blowing up in my face. Little marks from changing a barrel are is not really a issue when rifles are Tools to me

Is structural damage occurring, or is it just cosmetic?

At the end of the day, rifles are just tools. They are going to get scratched up.

I will agree though that scratches shouldn't be occurring as part of the process of changing a barrel.

When I scratched up my 300 dollar CanAm shotgun, I didn't really care.
I would imagine it's different with a 6K rifle.

On principle I understand your disapointment, an ultra high dollar rifle like that out of the factory should be spotless.
On practice it doesn't bother me since most of my gear stops being pretty fairly quickly. The first scuff or imperfection always pangs a little, but after a bit more use it becomes a whatever thing.

Yeah, it's my point; it should be spotless. See my other thread, I cannot chamber a round with my replacement barrel (not happy)

When I look at pictures of the barrel nut installed, it seems to me that those marks are from the barrel nut tool when they install the barrels. It looks like the teeth on the tool contact that other nut under the barrel nut, and marks it as its being tightened. More of a rub mark wearing off the finish slightly rather then what I would call a "scratch"

I know the feeling buying something brand new that is expensive, and not receiving it mint

In this case its not only under the hand guard its under the barrel nut. It should be better, but for example if I remove any of my AR handgurds, the barrel extensions and barrel nuts will have little wear and scuffs in them simply from having the hand guards and barrel nuts slid on and off after being tightened.

I am a picky bastard with some expensive toys but I would have to let that slide personally

Also have you tired any contact cleaners on it? Sometimes what I think is a scuff off of the finish, is actually material transfer from the tool that can be wiped off with some contact cleaner and some elbow grease

How does it shoot? The scratches might irk me but if the rifle was shooting to my expectations I’d probably just leave it alone!
