I was looking in the gun parts closet and saw a lightly used 1-13'' 308 palma barrel, a 2"x3" piece of hardwood and a mis-match 1942 Longbranch action......Idle hands, you know what they say. We went to work and made a shrink-fit mandrel that fits in the bolt channel to mount the action in a 4-jaw chuck, trued up both faces and recut the threads. Then it was time to thread, chamber and crown the barrel, got that all done. Armacoated the works and installed a no-gunsmith mount we made previously on another project for the time being until I decide what type of mount to use. Total dollars out of pocket $75. Now to load up some 155 palmas and see if I just built a canoe paddle.

Damn I like you and your style.... precision shooting on a welfare budget. I just admire your approach. I wish I was that talented. Instead I will have to go through life spending lots of 'extra shifts' money.

You have a great looking rifle there.... :)

Well, we took it out today to shoot at 600m even though I haven't done any load development with it yet and the trigger still at 5lbs, better than the 8.5 it was, but still not 2.5....Yes I am impatient sometimes. We established a 100m zero and proceeded to let fly to 600m with 14.5 MOA it will easily ring to gong that is about the size of a pizza, so it is not a canoe paddle yet. I will get serious now that I know it works and we will develop a good load and go for groups at 200 and I will post then. If it all works well my brother in law will be shooting it at the Tactical rifle shoot in June.

Here are a few pictures of the mount, sorry for the delay I've been very busy. The mount has the Parker-Hale dovetail machined into it so it's not an add on piece. There are two holes that go down through the top of the mount into another piece that is in the position of the old rear sight, you can see this piece in the pic from the rear. I Brake-cleaned the mount to remove the oil from the parkerizing to make it contrast better so it is easier to see for you guys, I'll re-oil it later. Overall it was way more of a pain in the ass than it's worth to do it this way, you can buy sections of Picatinny rail and then just do the rest the same....Way smarter.

Hi Jerry, It hasn't been out since the maiden voyage, I have managed to do up a variety of 155 sierra loads and some 155 amax loads. I just have to get time to take her for a run, and no I'm not using it at the match. I'll be using my c3a1 instead. Sorry to hear you can't make it.
