Hey Grizzly mag owners. How do you like your shotguns? I'd love to hear the ins and outs of them, and your opinion on there proformance, I'm considering buying one, due to the fact my local gun shop wants to put me through the ringer on a standard Remington 870 tactical and Mossberg 590 and I'm a little short on cash.
That and I like the idea of a quick 'slap in mag' for when I'm in and out of my Jeep. (My regular Winchester gets to be annoying loading and unloading it)
Please answer what you can, and post pictures of your gun if you have any.

-How well do they cycle, are they quick like the Winchester 1300 speed pump. or stiff like the Maverick 88.

-Do they jam for any reason, or fail to eject spent shells?

-Does the mag jam, or does it feed shells smoothly?

-Are the mags easy to quickly lock in and drop out, or do they require a trick and some fiddling to lock in

-Does the gun miss fire often.

-How well does the gun take abuse? do they scratch, dent or do the sights get bent easily? (specifically the 'magazine well') or can they take a pounding.

-is the finish on them thin, do they rust easy?

-What problems have you had with them if any?

-Is the 18.5" model threaded for a screw in choke?

-Is the shotgun 100% fully interchangeable with a Remington 870, I know the stocks and grips are. But what about barrels, chokes, accessories, action and trigger group?

Answer what you can. Thanks guys.

The gun is tough, mag well is solid.

You grip the mag and depress the spring clip holding it in and strip it off, its wide size seams to prevent any binding. Mags are not hard to center and snap in positively. they go strait in, no rocking.

Mine was from the first batch, I needed to smooth out some rough edges on the mag lips and it helps a lot, after chamfering the bottom of the barrel she will feed 3"ers no problem.

The ghost-ring sights are very tough. The front post sits on a solid pedestal, and the rear is protected by steel sides that sit higher then the Ring itself, so even if you drop it on the sight it wont get hit.

The finish is black oxide, I myself have not noticed any problems with scratches, but mine is tiger striped with OD green. I have not seen any rust.

As far as I know there are some small manufacturing size differences, but all parts should interchange.

Excelent, just take it apart and clean the grease out of it, they also get better with use.
-Do they jam for any reason, or fail to eject spent shells?
The mag that comes with the gun, no
The new spare mags, YES (JAM-O-MATIC)
Fail to eject, no

-Does the mag jam, or does it feed shells smoothly?
see above coment

-Are the mags easy to quickly lock in and drop out YES, or do they require a trick and some fiddling to lock in NO

-Does the gun miss fire often. IF you get the shell in it it's fine!

As far as guns go, yea its heavy duty, will the finish scratch, yes its just a park type finish. the sights on the 18.5 are way excellent, much better than the 15", don't worry about the gun, its a heavy duty peice of iron IMO
-is the finish on them thin, do they rust easy? It ain't stainless so it'll rust if not oiled but the finish is fairly coarse and holds the oil well but I haven't given either of them an extended field test.
-What problems have you had with them if any?
At first the only problem was a lack of available mags, now there's lots of mags but mine don't feed...
-Is the 18.5" model threaded for a screw in choke? NO
-Is the shotgun 100% fully interchangeable with a Remington 870, I know the stocks and grips are. But what about barrels, chokes, accessories, action and trigger group?
No idea but I thought they had small differences (barrel)
Answer what you can. Thanks guys.

I had a 15" and now have a 18.5"
First with "what sucks" IMO:
-15" = rear sight and heatshield
-18" = folding stock (closed it gets in the way of the triggerguard and open the pivot is right close to your cheek, plus its heavy)
-both = new mags don't feed. I've read where others have had the problem and easilly tweaked them to work and I believe that is all that may be required, I just haven't had time.

"What rocks"
-15" = not much, 15" is nice but I still wanted a 12.5"...
-18" = the sights are great and I don't really notice the extra 3" of barrel
-Both = when working this style of mag system IMO is the cats behind.

IMO a bit more capacity with a 12.5" barrel and the ghost ring sight in a full stock (non-restricted) would be "it", and I believe they should be in later this year...
Overall, good value IF you have the wear with all to make them work. If you prefer a Honda over, say, a Jeep you might want to weigh your options.
Just my 2 cents, YMMV.

Thanks to both of you. ive been waiting nearly two days to get a definitive answer out side of the poll results ( which at this point are looking good). And it seems you have managed to answer all my queations. This new information has convince me of two things:

-1. Get A Grizzly mag shot gun.

-2. don’t get the 10 mag combo package. I think 3-5 will do me, and I'll reworks them in my shop until they work as well as the original mag.(if thats possable.)

-how well do they cycle, are they quick like the winchester 1300 speed pump. Or stiff like the maverick 88.

Mine cycles well. I haven't shot a 1300 or 88 before, so can't compare it to those guns. But it cycles on par with my 870. One problem in mine was the locking bar needed some careful bending. When i first got it and chambered a round, occassionally I could open the action without firing the round. I found when i moved or twisted the forend, the rails could slip past the locking bar on the side. Once i bent the locking bar far out enough, the slide stays locked when loaded.

-do they jam for any reason, or fail to eject spent shells?

None of those problems on mine.

-does the mag jam, or does it feed shells smoothly?

The only 2 mags I got with the gun have no problems.

-are the mags easy to quickly lock in and drop out, or do they require a trick and some fiddling to lock in

Mag changes are smooth.

-does the gun miss fire often.

None yet.

-how well does the gun take abuse? Do they scratch, dent or do the sights get bent easily? (specifically the 'magazine well') or can they take a pounding.

I would imagine pretty good, but couldn't say for sure. I don't handle the guns roughly. They are built pretty solid.

-is the finish on them thin, do they rust easy?

Finish seems thick. No rusting, but mine's taken care of pretty well.

-what problems have you had with them if any?

Other than the locking bar, the rear sight is a bit ####-eyed. And slugs shoot to the right. I haven't got around to working on it yet.

-is the shotgun 100% fully interchangeable with a remington 870, i know the stocks and grips are. But what about barrels, chokes, accessories, action and trigger group?

Haven't got around to swapping anything other than the barrel with a 18" rem 870. Difficult fit, but it worked.

I enjoy my 15" save for the sights.

It won't win any beauty contests but flawless function through a couple hundred rounds of slugs and shot.

Heres a pic of mine with some Magpul, Fab defense and S&J hardware add ons... It's not the greatest pic, I really should sit down and do a photoshoot.

The Grizzly is a very good mag feed shotgun. When you buy it from CanAm, it comes with a synthetic stock and one mag. The synthetic stock is awkward if you're not used to shooting shotguns, so most people put on a M4 style stock. I put the Knoxx NRS stock on it and it fit perfectly. I also changed the foregrip and bought another mag. The mag lips have to be smoothed out so that the shells feed properly, but once it's done, they cycle perfectly. :)

Thanks again to all who posted, I'm very happy hear all this good stuff and to see the poll stacking up in the Grizzlies favor. I certainly feel it will be worth more than the $300 price tag even if I have to 'Tweak the locking bars' or 'fix the spare mags' I don’t mind getting my hands dirty.
I'm getting an 18" duel pistol grip version just to save on the initial costs, But I already have bought a knocks stock and horizontal fore grip for it. among a few other Remington add-ons. I'm sure mine will last through the hundreds of shells that I'll be firing through it. however, even though I ask all these questions of how much abuse it can take, I don't abuse my guns. its just that 'stuff' happens, And I want a gun that can take that 'stuff' when it does eventually happen.

I love that stock, I wish CanAm still had a few in stock. One queation I have is on the red dot holographic sight. What brand is that, is it a cheaper one, and does it lose its zero after a lot of firing? I've hear most cheaper red dot's cant handle the recoil of a shotgun, but I have never met anyone who has ever tryed it. Ive been hoping it isnt true, because I can afford a more expencive one, not that the sights wont do the trick for me. I'm just curious.

My personal opinion is that if your shotty's gonna be bouncing around in the trunk, you'd want to leave the iron sights on rather than throw a scope or Red Dot on her. I'd be too worried about the glass breaking or the optics losing adjustment.

On my 18.5" folder, I had some jamming at first, but it smoothed itself out after a 10-20 rounds. I also filed the lips. I have had two issues which need to be mentioned, however.

- On the most-used of my three mags, the retaining clip on the backside which keeps the mag in place fell off. That scared the crap outta me, I could see something like that screwing me over big time eg; while pumping the action as the zombies got closer'n closer :p

- The ejection port edges on my gun were razor sharp. First time I cleaned it resulted in a nice slice on my finger.

My solution?

- Sent all three mags to my favorite gunsmith to have the retaining clips on all of them all silver-soldered

- Simply used a Dremel on the port opening to smooth out the sharp edges, then covered the exposed steel with a permanent-type Sharpie marker (that's the beauty of grinding on a $300 truck/trunk gun, you don't worry about aesthetics all that much ;)

Good choice with the $300 one.. you can't beat that price. The red dot is a $50 bushnel trophy or something like that.. not expensive but not absolute crap either. So far it's been fine.. only a hundred rounds or so though.

I have punished mine more than any shotgun should take, and it keeps taking it......and functioning flawlessly. No issues whatsoever;

These things are built to be used as a club once you run out of ammo. They are money well spent in my opinion.

I agree, a $300 gun thats going to see some use, needs no fancy doings. I'll add you procedures to my chore list when I get the gun.
If you have the new parked mags I would recommend smoothing out the finish on the top of the follower. the last shell seams to drag on the finish, or it will most likely wear with time.
Everyone pretty much covered it. If you smooth those mag lips a bit she's good to go.
More chores for the list. looks like I'll be pack my dremel out of storage.

Good, because I have a few cheaper red dots. one is suposedly designed for a shotgun. I'll have to give it a try, but not all cheap junk is created equal. what works on a .22 may not on a shotty. But I have a quick release clamp for it so if I have to ditch it and use the irons I can.

Excelent!! because I fully intend to use mine as a club if the situation calls for it.:D

i have less then 60 rounds through my 15 grizzly and ejection spring broke.not sure how to fix .befor that thought it worked great

I have an 18.5"
I agree with the poster who said Grease it. Once lubed properly i never had any issues.[/QUOTE

Hi everyone, I'm new here and new to owning guns. I got my first gun a grizzly mag fed. I really like the way it looks and shoot. I put about 60 rounds true it and musta have about 15 to 20 jam, what a bummer :( not a great first experience. i came here to see if there was a easy fix. I red about filling the edge of the mag but here my problem I don't know were to file it and how much:( would anyone have a picture of there modified mag?

Plus greasing it, grease what part? and any ammo sugestion?

Thanks in advance
