The Hi-Point of Deals!

Why are the 45cal mags limited to 5? Aren't they the same mags as the handgun and thus allowed 10 (not that they fit 10 at full capacity but still)?

The mags are not for "a commonly available handgun" so they are not allowed. I think... not a firearms lawyer here and this is not legal advice ;)

But there IS a 45acp hi point handgun available in Canada. If the freeze means no more pistol mags that would apply to glock, AR15, etc. yet everyone is still selling 10rd mags including the OP dealer.

From the HI Point website on the carbine:
9-round magazine (interchangeable with JHP45 handgun)

So Northern Elite what is the deal with these mags being limited to 5?

The 5 round cap is a bummer but I know that there's a company that sells 1911 mag conversion kits for the 4595.

The mag is made for a semi auto rifle and not for a handgun there for its limited to 5 rounds. Just like when you buy every other semi auto rifle in Canada that does not take a pistol mag.

But it does take a pistol mag? I quoted that fact straight off the Hi Point website above.

Or are you saying these are somehow different from the pistol mags? If so, could you bring in the pistol mags?

I'm trying not to attract too much attention to this thread because I want to buy one of these but waiting on funds...
but now that it's been brought up, I recall a search I did for the JHP mags years ago. Very, very few are for sale here, for whatever reason. Not enough JHPs being sold/shot?

Anyway, semi-auto riles are sold with 5 round mags (if they even come with a mag), but if they take mags from a commonly available pistol, well that's fine for us to ummm, possess? At the pleasure of the king of course.

Certainly it would be a HUGE selling point for the 4595 if reasonably priced JHP mags were available. Maybe a Canadian manufacturer could manufacture some true 10 shot mags for the JHP...PLEASE :)

Ruger PC carbines ship with 10 round mags. Keltec sub2000 comes with a 10 round mag. S&w fpc comes with 10 round mags. It's normal for pistol caliber carbines that use pistol mags to come with pistol mags at their regular pistol capacity.

So either these mags are somehow different or something else is going on. Looking at Hi Points website I see both carbine and handgun magazines, but they use the same pictures, cost the same price, both are stamped "45R" and the carbine mags state they are compatible with the handgun. All that combined makes me think they're the same item.

If somehow they're not the same I want to know if the 9 round handgun mags can be brought in.

Sometimes I think that because Canadian gun laws are such an arbitrary, convoluted mess even the manufacturers can't understand them. Or maybe Hi-Point ships them with a 5 round mag just to avoid any potential hassles with Customs who we know aren't the brightest bulbs in the lamp when it comes to firearm legalities. Or maybe the importer requested them like that to avoid similar aggravation.

A few years ago when I bought my JR Carbine it came with the stock pinned open despite the fact that it is a non-restricted firearm and is longer than 26" even when the stock is collapsed so a functional AR-style stock would be perfectly legal.

To be honest if it was me I would prefer the 1911 45 ACP conversion kit anyway (as long as it works well) as I already have a couple dozen 1911 45 mags (including 10 rounders).

Good points, I forgot about the other PCCs coming with reduced to 10 round mags . I can't make any sense of the situation no matter how I try. Maybe it's because of the issue with 9mm HiPoint mags, which isn't really related, but bureaucratically might make sense.

Regardless, get those mags here!

How does getting parts up here work? Thats half the draw is while they're cheap you can easily get service or parts from Hi-Point. If we can gets parts easily I'd be very tempted.
