The HK 416, will we get it?

do a search on it, lots of info - but basically no we probably wont get it. There has been word that they MAY sell the 416 upper

My understanding is that HK has no interest in the civilian market in regards to this product (or anything at all for that matter). We won't be seeing it any time soon (or more likely we won't see it at all).

I believe there were a few that got sold stateside to civilians and HK was very upset with it.

God I hate HK....their like a really hot, really stuck up girl only lookin' for guys with the big bucks.

The LW system is liekly better than the HK. Lighter and simpler and uses standard handguards. They shoot very nicely and are reliable. I watched several beta-c mag dumps with no hiccups and the bolt was only warm afterwards. Tootal took some video. Speek with Rooster33, he will likely be the goto guy for these.

Keep in mind the Hk416 was the only setup that passed USASOC's piston testing...

However LW is likely the onyl one that civies will be able to get in the next few years.

I don't understand all this piston rage? I have never had a problem with my AR's gas system, and I think probably 99.9% of all the rest of us chairborn commandos haven't either(less Kevin). Would this not just be a fix for a non existent problem? More parts, Less accuracy!

Flame On:)

This Chairborne started with an SL8 and now has an AR. I like to shoot, not clean, and the AR is filthy. That alone is reason enough to try a piston upper. As well, in theory parts last longer because everything runs cool. Having seen the extensive list of 'spares' that experienced AR people carry, I can believe it.

Yes, you have to clean the piston, no you don't have to do it very often (the HK system is every few thousand rounds) and yes, it's a lot faster and easier than the bolt/carrier/etc.

My next upper will be a precision piece from JP, DI. After that, a short POF or LW. As for accuracy, we Chairborne have to hit an 8" circle in a hurry, and a piston isn't going to get in the way.

FWIW - the Hk416's with the 10.5" bbl outshot the Colt M4A1 14.5 in testing some of the US CAG (read Delta) guys did.

As well some of the US MARSOC guys (PGW Steve knows a few of them) say the Hk417 is extremely accurate as well...
That said I think the dif will be marginal either way given the current technology.
