Many of us have diverse and diverging interests in various firearms. I have come to the realization Mauser has-had a continuing nice habit with thier rimfire rifles that's commendable.
In my 1936 made ES350B and Model 105 (1980ish?), I see similar build characteristics. The magazine floorplate & trigger guard, on both rifles, have a kind of underneath & sandwiched under there, and into the stock inletting. an extra metal.plate.
I suspect it's there to help prevent overtorquing the screws when reassembly of rifle for maintenance.

My two 788s don't have this extra protection in the belly of the stock, and if you act like king kong one can strip out the much smaller wood screws from the factory wooden stock.

It's nice to observe one rifle company doing this on 22 rifles built most likely 45-50 years apart.
