Several years ago, on an impulse buy at a gun show, I picked up a Tru-Line Jr press. It was in poor shape, but I'd never seen anything like it, so I bought it. That started me on a collecting journey. I restored the press, cleared a corner on one of my reloading tables and mounted it. Over the next couple of years I bought every die set I saw at gun shows and a few items from flea bay as well.

I have some duplicate dies and such and i was wondering if there are other gunnutz out there that collect or use 310 dies and the Tru-Line Jr press.

I'd like to find a few items I'm looking for, and would be willing to trade for them.

I'd like to find "J" shell holders, a #4 and a #12. (Hornet and 9mm Luger)

I've got the following odds and sods:

- Tru-Line die set for 44 Special; 150 CMR c/w 429 button, 150 DA c/w 421 bullet seating screw, 7/8 FL sizer die, #7 “J” type shell holder.
- Incomplete Tru-Line die set for 38 Special; 95 CMR (missing expanding button, decapping rod and pin), #95 DA c/w 311 bullet seating screw, 7/8 FL sizing die, #1 “J” type shell holder.

Glossary:

• PC Priming Chamber (for 310 tool only)
• SH Shell Holder (for Tru-Line Jr.)
• PP Priming Punch (for Tru-Line Jr.)
• DC Decapping Chamber (for 310 tool and Tru-Line Jr.) Die sets with MR dies came with a DC with either a large or small decapping rod depending on caliber. Some die sets came with a expanding plug to convert the DC to an EC, others came with a separate EC die. A DC and an EC (R-L) are identical.
• MR Muzzle Resizer (for 310 tool and Tru-Line Jr.) Later Lyman referred to this as a “Neck Resizing and Decapping” die. The cartridge neck was referred to as the “muzzle” originally.
• CMR Combination Muzzle Resizer or a “Neck Resizing and Decapping” die (for 310 tool and Tru-Line Jr.) All CMR dies came with a decapping rod. Later production CMR dies for the Tru-Line Jr. die sets came with an expanding button on the rod, just like Lyman 7/8 resizing dies. (all CMR dies for use with 310 handles came with a plain rod for decapping only; the 310 tool was not designed to expand the neck when opening the handles.)
• EC Expanding Chamber or “Neck Expanding” die (for 310 tool and Tru-Line Jr.)
• EP Expanding Plug (for 310 tool and Tru-Line Jr.)
• DA Double Adjusting chamber or “Bullet Seating” die. (for 310 tool and Tru-Line Jr.) (Seating and Crimping)
• SS Seating Screw or (bullet seating screw) for the DA chamber. The seating screw should match the point of the bullet. Give number of cast bullet, or shape of jacketed bullet when ordering.

I can see from the low number of views and the lack of replies that there is very little interest in the old Lyman 310 dies and the Tru-Line Jr.

I had intended to list some of my dies WTS or WTT, but without interest, not much point. Over the years people have asked to buy the odd die, but I wasn't too keen on breaking up sets. I also wasn't sure on the market value. People seem reluctant to make an offer. Of all the dies, the priming chamber is the hardest to find. I've picked up die sets for as little as $15, as high as $60, and some were gifts from relatives. To make the die sets functional sometimes required buying a few pieces and occasionally I could make 1 set from 2 or 3. Lyman sells decapping rods and buttons, (the parts most likely to be bent or missing), for 7/8 dies and they are the same as 310 ones. I use the selling price for new die sets as my guide, don't mind putting in up to $80 to complete a 310 die set for tong tool. I don't like to have that much into a 2 die Tru-Line Jr die set, and so far I've been lucky.

I intend on continuing my collecting, it's fun to scour the gunshows and chat with other old timers about the "little" Lyman dies. I suppose I can also be lumped into the old timer club, I've got the whiskers.

I'll unsubscribe to this thread, PM me if you want to communicate.

I have a the same press kicking around with a set of 303 British and 300 savage dies. that's a nice collection and looks like you did a great job restoring your true line Jr.

I have both a 310 tool and a Tru-Line press. .38Sp and .30-06 dies, plus some others. We have a look, see what they are.
Years ago, I used a 310 tool for serious reloading. Didn't have a press.

Two presses, and some odds and sods of die sets, mostly pistol calibers.

Sorta figured to set up one for loading Hornet, but have not built my Hornet yet.

Cheers
Trev

Once you start on these its a very slippery collecting slope. Started years ago with a 310 tool and a NIB set of .455 Webley dies ( just because it was there and I hadn't spent all my money at that gunshow). Now there are 2 TruLine presses, a 55 powder measure, some sizers, priming tools and a variety of complete and partial die sets. Unfortunately its all buried deep in the gunroom but I will go thru it before a 20-22 Jan 16 Wpg. trip and see if I have any spare J shell holders in those sizes for you.

That would be great. A slippery slope indeed.

Was thinking of a 55 measure but the way it is designed is different enough I'm wondering if they work that well, any better or worse than the Uniflow type of measure?

I moved all of my TruLine stuff out the door a few years ago (Unless they worked with the 310 tool)
with my 310 tools I can load for 22 hornet / 22 K hornet,221 FB, 222, 222 mag, 223, 220 swift, 218 bee, 25-20, 6.5 jap, 6.5 mann, 307 win, 30-30, 308, 30-06, 300 sav, 30-40, 303 BR, 7.7 jap, 357 mag / 38 sp, 38-55, 44 mag / 44 sp, 45-70 / 45-90 and a few partial sets as well.

I probably do 10-25% of my reloading with the 310 tools

I think it is like reloading an addiction.
