:p to all you purists out there my M44 project is coming along well. I'm really happy with it so far.

What I've done so far:

-ATI stock I really like it. Some have slagged it but I'm impressed so far. I'll likely bed the action once I'm done everything else.
-Darrell Harrison Scope mount. I have nothing but good things to say here the piece is much better then the Bsquare one that I originally baught. The EER scope setup is about the best there is for me as I'm a southpaw so I can work the action with the left hand easily. This is also why I'm not gonna mess with bending the bolt.
-Bsquare rings. They aren't the best, I was looking at the mellet rings but I can't rationalize spending more on the rings then the scope is worth.
-NCstar EER 2-7x32 scope. This was a mistake. I think I'm gonna keep my eye open for a better scope. I know I want something that has more then 6x magnification and the Leos I seen are just to small for what I want.
-Custom fiberglass cheek riser. Awesome cheek weld now.
-Modified Dog leash sling. I just put some standard 1.25" swivels on there and its good to go.
-Cheep slip on reciol pad. I don't know what I'm gonna do about that maybe just leave it the way it is for now. I need the extra 1" cause I'm kinda lanky and I tend to envelop a rifle.

Don't worry the flame suit is on :D . Anyone have any suggestions for a good EER scope?

Nothing perminent has been done to the action yet but it will be ruined when I install the muzzle brake, at that point I will likely grind off the bayo lug too. I know its a bit brutal to be hacking one of these up but I wasn't really into collecing before I picked this one up and maybe I'll pick up a good polish to collect.

As a colelctor I'd usually crine at a bubba'd rifle, but I think (in a hunting context), what you've done here is very tasteful and practical. Make sure to post pics of your successful hunt once you get that baby into the bush.

I would opt for a fixed power scope, in the 4X range(or skip that all together, and go back to irons). For what I think your going to be doing with it(not hunting small varmin at long range) you realy should not need more than 4X.

Good luck getting the bedding to stick to the stock. Have you shot it yet with the bipod on it?

I will say you will end up not liking how the end product preforms, so don't do anything permanent untill you actualy test the thing out.

I have killed many game and non game animals(coyotes, foxes, gophers) with the standard un modified m44, and m91. They have become my favorite 2 guns to hunt with.

Love your rifle! I thought about going the scout mount way.. nicely done! I agree with Stevo though, needs the bayo back!

Funny enough this thread came up, I too finished my Hungarian M44 today, the last pieces I was waiting for came in and are now installed, my MoJo peep sights.
Here is the finished product, just have to sight it in this weekend.

I went with the ATI Monte Carlo and Brownells Acraglas bedding. Makes a huge difference to shoot. I love how muck recoil this stock seems to absorb.
I have a Super Sling 2+ sling and Talon swivels, I kept the bayonet (I like the looks of it). I have a Huber adjustable stainless match trigger and a set of MoJo Microclick rear peep sight and MoJo Snap Sight front peep sight.

Love to see your range report.

Edit: JD, I glassed the bedding on this stock. I roughed up the surfaces with 80 grit and used naptha to clean up the stock. THe naptha seems to melt the stock so I only did the bedding area. I used the Acraglas Gel to bed and it seems to have stuck OK, haven't had anything crumble away on it yet!

Please let us know how the Mojo peep works out Holleyman.

The bayo's also useful as a rifle holder. No need to lean it against a tree when you can unfold the bayonet and jam it securely into the ground. Useful as a weiner stick, too. ;)

I'm gonna keep the EER setup I like the Kalinka mount but I like to be able to work the action with my left hand in the prone so the Darrells mount works out well. I'm really just looking for a better scope. I'd go the lower power fixed route but I'm planning to use this rifle for the range, deer and moose too so I want the adjustable option. The NCstar is ok but I wouldn't recomend it.

LOL, the bayo is gone and for sale with the rest of the stock and other parts.

Now that I replaced the junk NC star rings (which broke while settingthe scope in place) I should be able to sight it in and see just how it shoots in the next couple weeks.

I've put about 40+ rounds through it in this configuration and I LOVE it. Can't comment on groupings yet but it feels really good, yea this stock sucks up a lot of recoil. Shooting in the prone used to actually hurt after about 5-10 rounds, now its much better. I imagine with the brake it will be a pure joy (actually its already my favorite). I developed a bit of a flinch with the old stock cause the recoil was pretty harsh.

Where did you get and how much was the trigger? I shimmed the trigger spring and it is a little better but it could be a lot better.

Mine was 74 style. That one shot that it survived did not feel any different than w/o it.
I still maintain that proper bedding and recoil pad make way more difference in felt recoil than a brake.

:D funny you should say that. I seem to recall thats exactly what we were doing at haggisfest :D

It was deer sausage If I recall

My opinion, if your going the bubba route go all the way, remove the bayonet and lug, and make a nice job of it, polish and reblue the metal.

I don't like the look of the bent down bolt handles on the nagants, so I'm not sure what I'de do there, perhaps just a little 30deg bend might look better.

I have 2 non matching polish M44's one that has cracked wood so I'm keeping an eye on this thread :)

Well I ordered the Huber Concepts trigger today. I'm really excited to see how it works, I've seen some good reviews so I'm hoping for the best. I'll deffinately let you guys know how it shoots.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger (pun intended) on a muzzle brake next week but I'm not quite sure if I wanna wait till I'm completely comfortable with the setup as is first.
