Just got the verdict back from the folks at BATFE in the US of A.
Our Modern Hunter has been deemed a "NON sporting" rifle in the USA.
What this means is that our US cousins can never own one of these. Sucks to be them.
What this means for us is that these rifles CAN be taken into the USA on a temporary basis with a Form 6NIA should any of the owners of these decide to go hunting or shooting in the USA.

That's actually hilarious. Shows how twisted the different "regulatory" bodies are in both the US and Canada.
So its a "Non-sporting" rifle down there and a sporting rifle up here and they call their AR's "sporting" rifles and "modern" hunter rifles - that's just amazing.

File a complaint for protectionism under the free trade agreement.

It IS protectionism, but "free trade" is a joke on a good day and frankly not worth the time to bother filing a complaint.
We are hard pressed keeping up with demand for Canada.
I just thought it was funny that apart from bolt actions EVERY rifle we manufacture has been deemed a weapon of war in the USA.
A folks think our laws are screwy? Oh wait, they are!!

Protectionism at it's best, that suck for ATR expansion, sure would mandate my lawyer to deposit a revision injonction... JP.

You seriously believe Obama's bureaucrats running ATF are motivated by trying to support the American firearms industry and promote it?

Been paying attention to what Holder was doing with the banks just before he left regarding having firearms industry clients?

There are other ways and believe there are already precedence set such as SKS are allowed to be imported if there are 4 parts produced in USA so 4 parts have to be exchanged and as you said there are a lot of the MH made in US.
It may not be worth the bother but it could help our gun industry.

Patent the design and subcontract the manufacturing to a USA company.
Maybe even have one of have big gun companies brand it under thier own name. That's where the money will be made.

When our guns want to access the us market, this type of barrier to trade is a norm now. But , when theirs are coming here the lab suddenly becomes more permissive. Joke is on us.

That sucks for your business. I am sure you would have liked that market

What market? It is legal to hunt with AR's down there and there ar many to choose from depending on your needs.

It is only here that a semi auto AR looking rifle with NR status has appeal and can command a steep price because of rarity.

There are still plenty of US customers who own semi-auto rifles other than ARs. Tavors, Sig 550 series, AKs, ZV-58s, etc. I love ARs and all, but not to the exclusion of other things.
This is bad news. BATFE is just as bad as the RCMP when it comes to being highly politicized and hostile to gun ownership by the citizenry. Having access to the US market would have let ATRS grow, and would have brought prices down for us Canadians (economy of scale).

That's too bad. I had high hopes for you guys in the US market. It's sad with all the free information available being the internet age and all, firearms are still so misrepresented and badly politicized.
